1972 CB 750 K2 by Aubi
« on: February 04, 2017, 12:38:53 PM »
Hi,
as you recommend me I start this project thread.

15.1.2017 I bought my first bike Honda CB 750 K2. Yes, my first bike :-) Even I still dont have driving licence to drive bike stronger than 11kW. So first thing at spring will be go to driving school :-)

But back to my bike.
Bike is 1972 and at 1980 was deregistered from England vehicle register. Before, maybe after this date sameone use it for racing. Probably at 2015 was sold to Germany and sameone start CafeRacer project. But fortunately he ends just with disassembling. Then was at one Czech "bike collector" (he have more than 50 bikes), but he dont have time to restore it, so he offer bike to me. So bike is currently at boxes. Looks complete, but unfortunately without exhausts.

What are my plans? I plan restore it at close as possible to original. I want to be done at summer 2018. But who knows. I need separate my time and money to last modification of my "racing" Classic Mini Cooper (its done but I "need" modify hood and other rims) and for wife I promise also classic mini (there'm done with the chassis and engine).

Last 2 weeks I did:
Completely disassembled engine. Not so much problems - just one broken (twisted) screw. And I need drill out all 4 screw which holds "shaft holder". But its done and fix.
Pinstons and Cylinder are at grinder to check it. Head - valve seat and valves are allready "grinded". Rest of engine looks OK, except a few bearings and oil seals...

I start to thing how to clean engine.... Probably wins shot peening (blasting with small glass balls) I want to test it at same small part and we will see.

Aubi,

Welcome to the forum! It sounds like you have some mechanical skill -- if you are working and racing a classic Mini Cooper.

We are happy to help and interested in your project!

Hi, i don't tray impact driver for shaft holder screws. Because I don't have suitable holder for Phillips screws. In fact i use impact driver just for removing wheels from car.

And bad news from machinery shop -  at one cylinder is distance between piston and cylinder is 0,007mm  :(

But new pistons and rings are on way from Japan.  ;)

Any suggestions for paint/varnish for engine after shot peening?

Aubi the impact driver that Stevo is talking about is the kind you strike with a hammer, not an air/electric impact. Usually has a 3/8 socket drive and assorted bits.

Hi all,
just quick update. New pistons arrive from Japan  :) and grinding is done. And rest of engine is prepared for cleaning.

I also check all boxes and find lot of unnesesery parts, and same missing parts. So I start searching on eBay and other shops.

I already drove 1000km, without any problem. CB is great,

i just need to finish a few visual details. (seat trim, timing cover,. )

Here you have same pictures, from progress:
