CB350/400F reproduction gauge faces
« on: March 06, 2011, 12:58:18 pm »
Hello,
First of all, I'm new here. I've had a CB350F for 10 months now. Still very happy with it, have been restoring a lot to factory condition. One thing I couldn't get my hands on, was a NOS speedo (my gauges where all cracked) in km/h (I'm from Holland). I do have a NOS tacho, but still searching for the speedo.
(By the way, if I didn't post this in the right forum, please tell me so I can move it or have it moved by a moderator)

Someone from our dutch CBFour club (Marcel den Butter) had the 750 gauge faces reproduced: http://cb750faces.com/webshop.php
Maybe some of you bought those and you know that Marcel did a great job.

A/w: I'm planning to do the same as Marcel did but for the 350 faces. The faces I'll be reproducing will be sliksheet printed on 2mm thick white arcylate cut out with a laser for extreme precision.
Last two days I worked on making a vector for the faces. Here the result:

The vectors are way sharper than the original faces are and as a result will look great and keep doing that for a lot of years due to the sliksheet printing and durable surface material.

Before I'll have the faces printed and laser-ed and no one's interested and I end up with high costs and a pile of faces nobody wants, I'm checking here if anyone is up for this.
I currently don't have a vector for the mls face, but if there is enough demand for those sets I can make one and that that one printed as well. I don't have the original plate in mls so I don't have anything to relate to. If anyone has one of those plates from a disassembled speedo and is able to make a scan of it (at minimal 1200 dpi) I can make a vector for that as well and I'll be able to have it printed.

If anyone is interested I'd love to hear it from you.
I don't have any idea of the price per set since I'm still waiting on some quotations. In the first place I'm doing this to get new faces and sell some more to get my high setup costs back. Secondary because it is not that bad to make those vectors, contact printing companies and contact potential buyers/sellers. A/w: if you would like to buy multiple sets to sell in your own store we could work out a good deal for both of us (when I know the price for a set).

Hope some people are interested! Contact me by leaving a message here or emailing to tommyrgn@gmail.com

i definitely want to redo my gauge face (only using a tach) but i was hoping for something more custom.
i assume each time you make a change the price goes up on you...

Well,
I don't quiet know yet. I'm hoping not (that way it'll be cheaper to make both km/h and mph which will result in a lower sale price).
What I do know it that the more colors you need, the more the setup costs are gonna be.
A/w: I'm not doing any custom designs due to the (expected) higher costs and the hours of shaping all the lines and layers.

Sorry.
Thomas

Hello
I've decided to reproduce CB400F face plates as well. I will show a design when I have them digitalized. Interested?

Does anyone know if the background color and the 'red zone' color of the 400 gauges are the same as the colors on the 350 gauges?
Someone told me the 350 colors are the same as 70K3/K4, is that correct?

By the way, if anyone has a mls face plate for the 400 I'd be interested in buying it from you. 350 mls face plate is on its way to Holland.

Well done (did take you long enough ;D ;D )
My bike doesn't look nice/new enough for new gauges, but should I ever decide otherwise you're the first to know!
