Can you get the Kawtail a bit lower to hide the frame.
I ran them on one of my bikes, but it had a longer swingarm and was slammed..i liked the look, but never got a proper seat on it.
I like the. Kawi tank, i have some Kawtails, and a Corbin Kawi seat the traditional type.. I think it would be worth cutting a frame if need be to get it to fit.

Sidenote..do you know anyone in the Falls, named Yearly..?

The rear of the frame was cut off and the tail faring mounting was confirmed.  The front is bolted at the frame and the rear will be bolted through the stock mounting holes into the hoop.

How's that!?

No I don't know Yearly.  Pm me his real name and I can let you know for sure. I've lived here my whole life and Niagara Falls isn't that big.  Chances are I know or know of him.

Fabbed up the rear frame hoop c/w tail faring mount tab.  I also totally removed the stock upper shock mounts and installed a "cleaner" set up.  I think it makes it look not as "busy".  I'm pleased with the result.

754 - Is this what you were thinking?  You suggested lowering it to cover the frame, but when it looked good at the frame it was "sacked out"(tilted back) too far.  I wanted it to have a rake (or at least the appearance of a rake).

Next was to fab up a seat pan. It has a provision at the front for upholstery to hide the tank mounting. The bum stop has small gussets for support so there will not be any force on the tail faring.  To mount it slides under the tank mount at the front and has two bolts that go through the rear cross member.

Jeez you really skinned that frame..hope you got a plan for the oil tank. .
Do you have a Kawi tank you could borrow to see how it looks ?
One of the albera guys was working on an oiltank that would leave some of that open.
Once first is done, might make more... Gonna be a few months.

I don't like the look of the stock swing arm so I sourced one from a CB550.  I shortened it to the 750 length and reinforced it.  It's funny when you have a vision of what you want yet it takes 3 or 4 renditions to get it right.  LOL!

754 - You're keeping me going here!

I am using a later model oil tank and setting it "in" almost flush with the frame.
I cut out the plastic filler cap and installed the cap from the original tank.  I changed the fittings in the tank to AN.
I welded up the two dimples and will run it without side covers.
The left side will be open.
The frame is not in such a state that the OE tank could not be used.  I just like the tucked in look I can get with the later model tank.

Did you consider a dry extension to the oil tank lower edge to follow the frame ? Would look really slick..

Some nice fab work here.  I'm not sure if it was necessary to lose the slightly longer swingarm length.

Looks good. With 2" shorter front tubes, whats your plan for a front wheel diameter? Under suspension compression and braking, you are very likely to collide the front headers with the fender.

+1 as to why shorten the 550 arm to the 750 length? Most people want to go the other route- Would also have helped maintain better clearance of the tire against the rear of the frame under suspension load.

I agree that the longer swingarm length would have been fine, but I had spent so much time setting up the tail that when I put the longer arm on my eye was drawn to the rear wheel being "stuck out the back". A little OCD maybe?

As far as the front goes, before purchasing the shorter tubes, I spoke with Cycle X and he assured me there was room.  He told me that all of their race bikes run 2" shorter tubes without contact with even their most aggressive rider.
My plan is to run the stock 19" front wheel.
I'll certainly recheck clearances.  The last thing I want is something I can't ride!

Thanks!  I've liked the Kawi tails since seeing a 900 when I was a kid.  I was surprised at how big it was when I got it.  They seem smaller in their stock location with the long seat and tail light sticking out the back.

How far are you from the border? Or I should say, which is closest to you? I usually ride out to Toronto a couple times a year to see Kemp from Ripple Rock Racers and "RusyOlive" who are both on here. A few members will be riding up into Canada come August if you're interested.

Thanks for the fabricating compliments, but I can't take all the credit.  I make the pieces up and tack everything together and I have a friend that welds it up.

The closest bridge would probably be Queenston/Lewiston.  I live in the north end near the QEW and Mountain Rd.
The ride would be great but at the rate I'm going with this build it would have to be August 2019!!  ::)
