Hi all new to the forum.

I picked up a bike last year its had a fair few owners so it must have been registered in the uk.

The reg plate is on a P reg  registered 20/08/1975  is my bike a K3

Im doing a rebuild on it, vin reads CB 500-2066461

Is VIN the same as what we call a framenumber? Anyway, all CB500 Parts Lists are here: http://www.honda4fun.com/materiale-documentazione-tecnica/parts-list/parts-list-cb500  In the first few pages of every parts list you'll find the frame- and enginenumbers listed to which that particular list applies. When you've found the list that covers your bike, there is also the socalled 'area code' to observe. When in doubt I can maybe help you out. A pic of your bike could help. Oh, and yours is not a CB500K3. My guess yours would be a CB500K1.

I agree. Looks to be a K1 - 1972 model.

In Australia, at least going by my two 500's, it appears that possibly K1's (20XXXXX) came with K2 engines (21XXXXX)?

To make sense of the CB500 engine- and framenumbers can cause some frustration. I mean, what to think of the last ofspring, the CB500K3, that has the framenumbers start at... 1000001 again (source: p 175 of https://www.classiccycles.org/media//DIR_1653304/DIR_1653404/DIR_1653507/24a1fc97eff08d37ffff8517ffffe41e.pdf). Anyway, best is to select the Parts List that you think covers your model. So there are 4 tags to observe:  enginenumber, framenumber, carbnumber and the area code. When you're in doubt about a certain part on your model or just want to know on what other models that part can be found, a site like this can be helpful http://www.motogrid.com/oempartfinder.htm?aribrand=HOM&arian=MOTORCYCLE .
You can enter the partnumber and do a search. Click select model and you'll have a list of models presented that had that particular part. Some models that went exclusively to Europe like the CB500K2 (ED, F, G) and the CB500K3 are not covered however.
