Topic: Cb750 DOHC SWINGARM on cb750 k

Please help me out with exact instructions on how to fit on my cb750 k2 the cb750 dohc swingarm.do i need to trim one side or both sides of the pivot tube (specify exact dimensions in mm if possible) as to how much and what must i do with inner bushings and seals etc???do you know if cb550 1976-1978 swingarm is a plug and play swap and no mods are required??thank you in advance for your time and efforts!!

I have heard that a 550 will plug and play.

Don't quote me on that. I do have a 550 swing arm here leaning against my 75 750K, and it is a bit longer, this I do know.

I have been just a lazy old fart, not getting out in the garage and install it.

I also have a set of front forks from what the guy I bought them from said are 550.

When I opened them up to replace the seal, the innards seem to resemble a 500.

Hope it will work........talk about laziness, I've had these front forks for much longer than the swing arm.

Hope you get the answers you seek. And if I do get them changed I'll shoot you a pic.

I remember Lucky - member here - did DOHC swingarm on SOHC frame, trimmed one side.  It is doable but you have to do your own measuring a fitting.

Thank you guys for your replies.CB750 C 1981 swinarm is on it's way to me so when i get it fitted on the frame i will share my experience and all actions and measurements i did to make it work along with pictures.if things don't work out as planned i will go for the CB550 76-78 swingarm.i understand it is not as rigid as the stock swingarm or the 1980's and after swingarms but it will do the work!!hopefully you can share some info about tires and dimensions.firestone champion deluxe is my first pick as i want the vintage look and not the performance from the widest set of tires front and rear on stock cb750 k rims.thank you,Nick

To use Firestone Deluxe tires in the same paragraph as expressing concern about stock arm rigidity couldn't be more hypocritical. Firestones are absolute crap tires and don't handle worth a #$%*e. Don't waste your money.

As for rigidity concerns, the 550 arm is constructed exactly of the same material as the 750Ks. It's 1" longer so sure, it's physically less rigid. But you'll never know because you'll never push your bike to a limit to expose that theoretical difference. Especially if you're contemplating Firestone Deluxe tires.

Then damit.......the 550 swingarm it is.

I will be painting and mounting that sucker this weekend.

If you go through all the trouble of adapting a DOHC750 swingarm, there are better options. The 750DOHC swinger is not THAT much of an improvement.
People who own DOHCs improve their chassis by using CB1100F arms (box profile) or even other aluminum swingarms (Suzuki GS1100).
The Suzi swinger is almost a bolt-in to most of the DOHCs - CB750 and CB900F, so taking this would mean your work is worthwhile.
