Hagons

Looking at ordering some hagon for me 78 550. Anyone have experience with Heather USA? They don't have an option to pay through the site. They want me to send my info through email which I am hesitant to do. Doesn't seem like much in the way for protecting data.

You should consider Ikon shocks from NobleHops, who is the US distributor and a member here.

Great to deal with.

I bought 2 sets of custom shocks.

+1, Ikons on my 750 are superb.  Hagons on my kz650 are quite excellent, but not as good as the Ikons...perfectly natural considering Hagons start around $200 and Ikons start about twice as much

Looking at pulling the trigger on the 2810s that Dave offers. Any suggestions on length? They offer a 12.2 and 13 inches. Stock length is 12.6 I know you want to stay as close to stock as possible.

Can the Hagons be ordered 1" longer than stock?  I'd like to have ample clearance for a brat seat if I go that route?

Any of the track day guys chime in on Ideal shock length for a stock SOHC 750?

Not knowing 750s well I would go with a 13". Most other bikes I've always gone longer in rear for improved handling.

If I recall correctly when you call and work with Dave for the Halgons he interviews you to understand your bike's weight ( if modified heavily) the type of riding you do and loads you expect  and the mods you have made.  Knowing this he is able to send you a set that are setup with the proper spring rate and recommended preload settings for your riding. 99% of the time they are spot on.

Women weighing 100-120 pounds, or Men, will need a substantially lighter spring than a 200 pound male rider with 105 pound wife riding two-up most of the time.

Dave reccomended the 2810 10 way adjustables. He stated that they come in 12.2 or 13 inch lengths but couldn't give me advice on which length to go with because he has not ridden a 550 with that setup. Hence my question on which length to go with.

Think about it: If you put Öhlins adjustables on the rear of your CB750, the shocks may be worth more than the whole bike...That's what I would go for....

I would be afraid to park it out in public lest some bike thief spot it and the Ohlins and decide it is the bike to take in a large part from the Ohlins alone.  That is a good chunk of change on bike.  Definitely need to keep records and insurance aware of mods and value of the bike so the policy coverage is adequate for your needs.

Is measurement for shock in center height for preload setting.  How much range of movement is available in upwards or downwards direction? Is that adjustment result in equal movement in either up or down adjustment in the ride height when loaded with identical weight or is it the spring is loaded more or less to put it into a higher state of compression to start when loaded?

The 550s have a nice turn in and steering is an entirely different animal than how a 750 steers.  I do not think it will make it dangerous by altering the geometry greatly with an inch higher rear suspension.  It will make it easier to turn in and increase the rate you can easily turn the bike. It will make it crisper and will take a very small amount of time to adjust your lean and pressure required to make it turn.  Guys racing the 550 will do this.  The extra inch does not provide a massive change to the rake and trail by raising it another inch.

Not a 550 but I just put  14" Hagons on my 750F.  Went for the first ride and  handling was great.  +1 for David Quinn

I almost got Hagons but went with Ikon for my restoration as they look closer to factory shocks. I'm thrilled with the performance. Can't comment on Hagon as I've never run them, but on a budget I'd give them a try.
