They're not OEM but look identical.

I'm curious about the lowers, but kind of like the semi naked look the way it came.

get the lowers whether you want to use them or not...they go for large amounts on ebay at the odd times that they pop up.  Good luck though, dealing with Camna's neighbor ain't as easy.

I've been waiting for a small Senior apt. to open-up there as it's affordable so they called me up Apr. 6th and said "you can move in here May 1st  :o :) So I'm seriously packing. Was that Horatio Alger the one who said "Go West young man"?  :D I'm not young anymore but I'm trying to 'think young'..

Is a "Senior Apartment" a place in a "Retirement Village" mate? If so, I'm guessing I know what happened to the last tenant.............. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

No, it was Horace Greeley (a distant relative of mine. I attended a Greely family reunion with my Grandmother back in the early 1980's). Although that isn't exactly what he said.

Got the valves adjusted on today. Man, that was.....fun....

The good news is that the lobes, cam chains, etc., all look beautiful. No wear at all that I can see, Everything internally that I've seen on this engine is awesome.

The job would have gone even quicker if I didn't have to spend an hour trying to fish out this damn wrench. It slipped, dropped, slid and fell....RIGHT into the oval hole on the INSIDE of the swing arm! My buddy was actually successful in fishing it out for me using a couple of magnets. I was thiiiiiissss close to removing the damn swing arm!

Carbs should be done tomorrow. To be honest, it gives me the heeby-jeebies seeing the parts like this. I would have used Tupperware, ziploc baggies, etc., but my carb guys knows his way around these things and is something of a mad scientist. I've yet to get a set of carbs back from him that weren't flawless.

He said I made a good call in pulling them. All O-rings, bowl gaskets and fuel tees were shot. Otherwise, not too bad. "After" pics coming soon.

Carb guy is a savant if those carbs ever work again.  Separating them is not recommended.

I can literally walk to his house from mine. He does all sorts of carbs and it is good at it. He gets....distracted...sometimes, but never, ever fails to come through.

Carb guy is a savant if those carbs ever work again.  Separating them is not recommended.

I know. And I talked to him about this. He's owned several Magna's and rebuilt them completely, and has been through many, many sets of V4 carbs. He swears this is the best way to get them truly clean. He says I definitely would have had fuel leak issues had they not been taken apart. While they were pretty clean, the rubber and plastic had perished.
He says these are actually a little more complicated than the Magna carbs, but nothing compared to CBX carbs. He's done two sets of those and says "never again"!

The cowl had a couple of broken tabs. One was already missing, the other was only held on by the bolt. My Dad did a couple of repairs for me....

... and I hit it with a little white paint. Both of these areas are pretty much invisible when installed, but now they're fixed!

Heard from my carb guy tonight. Carbs are done! Now you see why I use him, especially on carbs this complicated. I still do some carbs at home, but if they're even a little bit iffy I just drop them off.
I plan on picking them up in the morning and hopefully getting them back on the bike in the next few days.

Carbs are in! Now to just get the cooling system back on and filled and install the new battery. You might also notice that I cleaned up the Kerker mufflers a little bit, too.

It wasn't quite as bad as I was dreading, but I don't want to do it again. We tried the "tilted manifold" method first and that didn't work (yes....new genuine Honda manifolds). Then tried the method in the FSM and that didn't work. Went back to the "tilted manifold" method, lubed everything up with a little grease, and pried on the front of the carbs with a couple of long, flat blade screw drivers and they popped into place. I'd say we spent a couple of hours over all, getting cables attached and adjusted, carbs in, air box back on, hoses and stuff re-routed, etc.
It definitely takes two sets of hands and I'm really thankful for the GF's tiny hands, patience and dexterity.
