50+ is realistic though. I have a 592 with a small Web, stock valves & carbs, and it's 51 @ the wheel. Very much fun to ride.

yes a 550 with around 50hp is nice. 60+ would be even nicer i'm sure, but that would take a much deeper dive into the bag of tricks. and the pocket.

I believe I was recalling "at the crank" but perhaps I am confused. Thanks for clearing that up anyway.

Brent is past that point (60+) on his race bike but that was with some very deep dives in development and investment over several seasons. Was it close to 70? It was a seriously large number for staying within the AHRMA rules for the 550.

The Webers have the ability to tap into the power potential of the motor much easier than the stock carbs.

The $ per horsepower graph I just think would just be funny to see. The GE motor is a "605" with a 650 cam and mild porting, stock carbs, and a MGPwerks exhaust, Hondaman ignition. Less dollars
The 592 hi compression motor is 11.5 to 1 dynoman pistons, mike Reick stage 4 head, 126-20 cam, cr26 carbs, kinetic exhaust, c5 ignition. Big dollars
Then this one 650 motor, 674 pistons, Mike Reick stage 2.5 head, Yoshi 122-00 cam, 750 carbs, hindle exhaust, c5 ignition. Medium dollars.

Pretty sure we all know already, what the results will be, as to which will make the most.

It'll be interesting for you to pursue your $ per.... Don't get discouraged because there will be lots of tuning involved, but that's part of the process.

As is the case with all these engines there is power to be had from headwork. It'll be interesting to see how much better the 650 head is here even with a little work. A 3mm larger intake valve is a huge step and with similar cams......? Certainly the potential is larger with a 650 head. That said, I like the squish potential with the smaller chamber of the 550 head, it allows for much less spark lead.

I'll watch for this outcome, good luck.

I'd almost expect to see similar number from the 592 motor and the 650 motor. But the difference being the 650 motor more street friendly. The 592 will be fun once I get out of town but I have to get out of town first lol.

So in keeping with the period correctness, and look of the bike I picked up this vintage Kerker cb650 4-2 exhaust. It'll be different than everyone's now "standard" Hindle pipe. It's in amazing shape, but a little elbow grease never hurt. I still have the Hindle header if I ever want to go 4-1, but this just has a better classic feel.

Well, considering that models 1980-82 were lower-slung cruisers, there wasn't too much need or demand for hi po parts.

That is gorgeous!
Could you be so kind to post some detail pics of the mufflers/cans? Interested in the baffles.
Have a pair of megaphone Kerker 550 like yours (but no where near as nice) and I need to redo the baffles and they came disassembled and I may need to do some work on them...beyond putting in new fiberglass packing.

This train is chugging along.

I was thinking of the nickname Daily, and how fortunate we are in SoCal to not have to deal with a real Winter. Now that the thaw is ON, you have all the more incentive to get projects out on the road. We (in SoCal) are spoiled and maybe that's why my projects drag out (I get distracted riding running bikes on the weekends).
