Pretty sure I had the same issue with my m-lock and a drained battery. Flash the sensor and the m-unit would come to life. Hit the start button and the m-unit would totally power down after an audible click. Hooked up a meter to watch the battery as I hit start and volts were dropping to 8. I agree...not a fault but a signal that something ain't right. Sorry to hear about the pinched gasket Cam but glad you sorted it. Bikes gonna turn heads when it's running.

Just be patient when you re-install that gasket and head, and step your stud torques back in. And re-torque again after an overnight sit. Might not seem needed, but its way better to do, than not to do.

That was the exact issue River. My concern was that it was a fully charged AGM battery. After it did this a few times I hooked up the battery to a charger/starter and same issue.
Swapped to a regular switch and she fired right up. I have a shorai battery on order to see if that works.

Round 2:
Everything reinstalled, gaskets changed and cam degreed in.
No leaks!!!!
She’s purring like a kitten, which is surprising because I have only syncd the carbs.
Also replaced the m-lock and am using a shorai battery. No issues and m lock is working perfectly, wired just the way it was before.
A few more things to wrap this one up!

Nice!  My bike had a few growing pains again with the rewire.  Either the lock or the m-unit was shutting down likely due to insufficient battery voltage.  I think a new battery is in my future.  Also, I need narrower mounts for my new mini-coils.  The coil wire boots rubbed on the tank enough to wear a pin-hole and I received a nice pulse shock through the bars -- ouch!

I’m thinking it was a battery issue too Don.
I could think of worse places to get pulse shocked lol, but still no bueno.
Explain these mini coils? I must have missed the post!

On my 550, I am running a Dynatek ignition.  Since I had some wiring reliability issues, I decided to swap the old harness for an M-Unit and my regular coils for Dynatek's mini-coils.  I had purchased the mini coils for my 650/550 project before I switched that project to using a C5 ignition with its own proprietary coils, so I had the Dyna mini coils as spares.

Even though the mini coils are smaller than the standard ones, if you don't shave down the standard mount bracket they will actually flare outward and take up more space.  If you cut down the mount brackets, they take up about 2/3 the area of standard coils.

Anyways, the rubber boot connecting the coil wire rubbed against my gas tank and created enough daylight to arc against the tank.  That translated to a crap-ton of volts pulsing through the frame, bars, etc. to my hands.  It started with one or two sharp shocks and as I heard one of the cylinders start missing, it started pulse shocking me just as I was pushing into a 270 degree turn.  Let me tell you, it sucked.

I managed to break a spark plug cap on my '78 CX500 and got a nice shock from my knees against the rocker cover...that "lights up your life"
Managed to nurse it back home on one cylinder.  Then it had to wait until a new cap could be sourced...they are deep well 90 degree resistor plug caps.  2.5-3 inches long if memory serves me correctly.
OEM caps still available or WeMoto from UK which are non-resistor caps.  I believe a Kawasaki cap can also be used, forget the model off hand...
