CB750 K5 fork length question
« on: February 12, 2017, 10:19:37 AM »
I need to replace my seals on my bike and I'm considering doing a GSXR600/750 fork swap. But I've read at length about the rake/offset/trail considerations of doing this and, rather than just blindly buy a fork and a cognito moto top tree, I want to make sure the resultant dimensions are where I want them.

What I can't find anywhere, even searching through old topics on this site, is the actual fork length (not fork tube length) of the stock 750k k5 forks. In order to compare the resultant attributes based on a GSXR600 length, I need to know where I started. I am comfortable with the trail of the bike as is, and would like to end up at the same place.

Things is, when I'm sitting on the bike, I'm not measuring it and when I'm measuring it, I'm not sitting on it. Should fork lengths be measured with a slight load on the bike or not?  Or can I just measure it?

Where does this info exist? I'm pretty good with a search engine but apparently not good enough. Anyone know?

Bonus Question: the cognito moto top tree has an offset of 30 mm, whereas the original cb750 offset is 60 mm.

IF the fork lengths are the same and I continue to use a 19" wheel, as I'm not trying to re-invent "the wheel", where might I get a compatible tree with a 60 mm offset. (I'm not violently opposed to a 17" wheel but it's a matter of both project simplicity and also not wanting to give up clearance down under)

Unfortunately, I'm in an urban apartment with only a sidewalk to work on, so I'm not really able to get into any serious machining myself. I'm somewhat limited to what's out there or what someone will fab for me.

thanks

got my answer: 29"... but i still don't know whether that's with rider weight or not and whether it even matters that much
