throttle stop screw - 750 K6
« on: February 24, 2017, 06:16:25 PM »
still learning.  my carbs don't seem to have a throttle stop screw on them to adjust.  my manual shows them directly above the float bowl clip.  can anyone explain to me why my carbs don't have these?  as far as i know these are stock carbs on this bike.

Won't see it in your pic, should be about underneath throttle mechanism between carbs 2 and 3

got it goldarrow, i guess i call it the idle adjustment screw.  i keep having to twist it after i ride a bit.  it's won't stay consistent.  i set it and take off.  come to a stop sign 1/4 mile down the road and the bike is idling at 2,000 rpms.  turn it down to 1,000 and the next stop sign the bike wants to die.

Oh idle adjust screw, that's the screw on top left corner in the pic.  If you find that you need to keep readjust the screws, your carbs may need service

but that idle adjustment screw (top left in photo) does the same as the old stop screws on the side of the carbs, right?

I think you use wrong screw for wrong purpose, the only idle adjust screw is the large screw up too on left corner in pic.

Screw on side of carbs, hmmm...those small screws, I think you mine be referring to air screw

Not having a very early 750 with cable carbs I can't be sure if those carbs have them, but  single and dual carb bikes do have screws with a tapered point acting as the slide stop, this adjusts idle rpm. I think cable activated multiple carbs (with cable splitters) have these stops as well, sync is done via the carb cap cable adjusters - but idle rpm still sets via the slide stops: throttle cables should be slack with a few degrees of grip play at idle.
But racked multi carbs do not have these stop screws. Idle throttle adjustment is on the main actuating rod plus there's some way to adjust individual carb throttles to sync them. You can see both of these adjustments in your picture.
The brass screw visible on the carb body adjusts the air/fuel mixture at very low throttle opening. Adjusting this will probably change the idle RPM - but it is not the idle rpm adjuster: you're only adjusting that one of the four carbs and maladjustment can foul the plug and/or affect performance.

bodi and goldarrow, as far as i can tell and from my messing with them the only adjustments i can perform on my carbs is with the large thumb screw between and in front of 2 and 3 (this basically lowers or raises the entire set of carb slides), the air screws which i have turned out about 1 1/8 turn and thirdly the brass nuts and lock nuts on top of the slides.  is this correct?
