Stupid spark advancer seal!

Someone please tell the damn seal that I do NOT appreciate it splooging oil all over the points every few months.

Also you could have a bad o-ring which is on the crankshaft end of the shaft which screws in and holds the spark advancer on to the crankshaft.
Just to let you know if you don't already know there is a main oil gallery feed in there which lubricates the crankshaft journals so if that o-ring is bad it will leak oil.
If not it will probably be the oil seal on the crank between the crankcases so there are 2 spots which to consider may be leaking.

Yeah & pray that it is the o-ring leaking, because changing that oil seal on the crank is a 'split the cases' job. The oil seal has a ridge on it & it can't just be pushed in.

+1.  A lengthy repair for such a small issue.  :-\

As a bandaid repair...you might want to remove the points plate, clean that seal/case area really well, (degreaser, acetone, etc.) and apply a thin smear of a non-hardening sealant around the outer edge crank seal/case.  Might just do it.
Its out of sight and no one but you will know  ;D

I've seen a good write up about replacement of that crank seal (if that turns out to be the issue) without splitting the cases. Once the old seal is removed the outer edge of the opening in the cases was beveled about an 1/8" to coax the inner lip past the outer edge of the case and I believe a bolt was used in place of the advancer shaft along with an appropriately sized collar to match the OD of the seal. The outer edge of the seal, along with the opening in the cases were lubed up and the bolt was used to slowly press the seal into place. DO NOT use the advancer shaft to press the seal in since it tapers and is susceptible to bending/breaking.

Good idea Wilbur!
Maybe a long screw in place of the advancer shaft, with a nut and a stack of washers (with the final washer the same OD as the seal)....then just turn the nut to seat the seal.
