hi and help with bike ID and info, 78 model
« on: February 15, 2017, 02:56:51 AM »
hi
new here as I just scored a cool old CB750.

I will try and post pics but if it does not work here are the numbers
frame; CB750G-1015899
engine;CB750E-2611885

It appears to be original and has sat for many many years after a front end bingle. The frame appears good and after removing the damaged front wheel and forks it appears very good. It's a cool colour combo of red and blue, but finding out the exact model is tricky with so many varieties out there. I am in process of getting it ready to test start, by checking oil, fuel etc etc

so after info please....
thanks jas

Here's a link for the engine/frame timeline.  Have no idea what the G is...

That chart probably does not apply to a foreign bike. Lots of Aussies here to help you out though and a picture is worth a thousand words.

yeah thanks I am hoping some Aussie expert can fill me in on the 'G'. I have found an Iceland bike on net with that code but non seem to be for sale in Australia at present and google craps itself when you add the G LOL

I got her running today briefly just to test. I topped up oil, fresh fuel, battery, bit of choke and eventually kicked to life, sounded good, rev'd freely, now to get parts and fix front end.

Lenzy, hello from Nth Qld. I have a 1978 F2 - well I think that it is an F2 not an F3. There are only a couple of differences between the F2 and F3 - the F2 side cover emblems have vertical characters while the F3 has slanted characters and the carburetor needle height are adjustable on the F2 and not on the F3.
Details of my F2 follow:
Engine No.       CB750E - 2615475
Frame No.        CB750G - 1015207
I believe the "G" means General Export.
Pat

Pat from Australia

sweet thanks, yes it appears to have adjustable carbies as I can see little threads at front underside of carbs, would that be them?
I don't seem to see many for sale in Australia? I see plenty of early 70's but not many F series. Thankfully I seem to have found a local with all the front end I need for sale.

oh and I forgot, I managed to check all levels etc, hand turn her and eventually threw a tiny battery from my 225 Yamaha in and she sprang to life. Needed choke on to run, but sounded pretty good. Only ran briefly.
By way with these old bikes are they like old cars and need lead replacement gas? if vales have not been done before?

Hello mate.

No, those little threads you see do not mean they have adjustable needles!

You can't drill down what's inside your carbs by the year - this only gives you an idea of what you should find. A '77F2 should have PD41 carbs (look at the stamping on the side of the carb body) which have adjustable needles. Later bikes might have PD42 carbs which don't have adjustable needles. In the UK the F2 had 41s, and the K7 had 42's (we didn't have F3 or K8). There are jet size differences between the different racks. Outwardly they all look and fit the same. Don't assume anything on a forty year old bike, you need to take them apart to be sure (not that it sounds like it is necessary at this point  :))

First job - get yourself a manual. No question is a daft question, plenty of help readily available on here.

And well done for buying an F - much better than those old K things  ;) ;D
