78 750f rear m/c help
« on: February 25, 2017, 06:29:04 AM »
can someone point me in the right direction.  i rebuilt my m/c's in the front and back on my 78 750f. the front is fine, but the back needs help.  the rebuild kit didn't come with the push rod and washer.  i couldn't find any kits with it.  i have the old one in there now and the washer is bad shape and in need of replacement.

i'm looking for the washer that goes with the push rod, #12 in the link.

No push rod and washer in the kit I recently purchased for my 78 F also. Mine was a bit nasty, but still solid enough to use so it got a glass bead cleaning and was put back into use.

this is what I have.
first photo is the orientation.
second photo is the pump.  I'm questioning that I put the rubber part on incorrect
third is the push rod and washer.  that ball part is in good shape, then not so much.

If you have a weak stomach, look away now  :)  and ignore the tie dyed bed sheet. The price was right ::)
This pic might help to show the correct orientation of the seal cup in your second pic. Looks like you have it correct. That rod and washer looks no worse than mine did. Are the threads and adjusting nuts on the rod in decent shape? As long as all the pieces are structurally sound they should be safe to use.
And for what it's worth I used a short length of wooden dowel with a small piece of cloth coated with some alluminum mag polish in an electric drill to polish the inside bore. Brought the finish up real nice.

Yeah the threads are in great shape. I just made my own washer and the push rod now goes up and down more in line. Will find out today if this corrects it.

Washer looks like it should work. The original was slightly concave to accommodate the round end of push rod. The only thing to watch for is that the flat washer still allows the full extension of the internal cylinder assembly for it to work properly. My guess is it should still work fine with the flat washer you used.
And through some trial and error I found some EPDM style hose that's compatible with brake fluid at a hydraulic shop that works well for the connecting hose from the brake resivoir to the master cylinder if needed. Stock spring that fits over the outside also fit over the EPDM hose.
