Topic: Stopping Flash Rust

Any recommendations for stopping flash rust?
The problem;
Remove small parts from the works cleaner, rust free.
Wait a half hour and it's flash rusting.
Already have gun oil and 2 stroke oil mix on hand.
But;
What are the non-oil-based alternatives?
For that awkward time between rust-removal bathing and the eventual painting?

You could try rinsing off the part in distilled water right after the works treatment and dry the part off right away.  If you have any electrolytes in your water the rusting takes place faster.

Rinse, neutralize, and wipe down with Acetone. Seal them from air. Oxygen must be present for rust to form. Or, drop them in a tub of water until you are ready to use them. Fully submerged is an oxygen-free environment. Thats why stuff on the bottom of the ocean never rusts...

I'd be curious if putting the small parts in a balloon or rubber glove and filling with argon/co2 from a MIG gun would work.

Rinse the acid off with water and drop them into some wood alcohol, dry with a towel, apply a light coat of oil.

Once the zinc is gone there is not much you can do to keep them rust free.  I found a guy who gives me great pricing when I do it in volume.

I want to try this just so I can have an inflated glove to make chicken jokes with.

It would, but why do this when H20 is free? Pure Argon will also purge all oxygen and keep them rust free.

Because you can just fill the glove up with paint, shake it around and you're part is done!

There was also rid product that seemed too good to be true. It was an oil to prevent flash rusting that you spray on. They say that you paint right on top of the oil and there isn't a problem.

Looked for a bit but couldn't find the link. I think I saw it on Jay Leno's garage. I'm sure it's a gimmick, but this product is supposed to solve your exact problem.
