GPS Speedo - reciever location
« on: February 23, 2017, 01:29:05 PM »
I’m looking to replace my stock speedo and tach with a GPS speedo and electronic tach from Speedhut. I’ve seen post around here about people using them and liking the look/performance. I can’t figure out where people are mounting the GPS receiver. Any suggestions? Anyone else use one of these GPS speedos?

I've got one of the cognito ones and love it.  Granted, it's only been mocked up and now wired yet but the looks are stellar!

Just got one.  The cable is a mile long.  I wanted to cut it but was advised not to.  So...I folded the wire a few times and put it in some expandable sleeving.  For the moment, I have the sender behind the gauges, stuck to my bars (it's magnetic)
I'll end up moving it to a more discreet location.  I just had to see how well it works.  It's been a week and about 150 miles.   It is awesome.  I do not have it wired for the "hot start" and it acquires the signal quickly enough that I won't make that connection.   The needle is rock solid and they light up beautifully at night.  I couldn't be more satisfied.
Yep, I'm the kid that figured out how to put things back together...eventually.

The cable is a mile long.  I wanted to cut it but was advised not to.

I saw that on their website. I was thinking it might be possible to mount somewhere on the rear of the bike more discretely and use up some of the wire. Also wanted to look into a spare antenna and attempt a trim. Did they give a specific reason not to or more just a "probably not a good idea".

FYI your set up looks clean. Love the Honda Racing touch. Good job!

After reading through the SpeedHut FAQ I found they will shorten the GPS antenna for you. Kinda sounds like you can ask for anything in the comments section of your gage order and they'll try to get it done. Hope its not just talk. We'll see...
