whoops
« on: February 05, 2017, 08:12:34 PM »
So I was cleaning my carbs on 78 cb750 and cracked the little brass stem sticking in one of the throttle bodies from the accelerator pump.  It was clogged and my ignorance on its removal resulted in a bent and cracked part.  see attached pic.
Anybody know where I can get one?

You might try a hobby shop where they have a display with a selection of brass tubes. You might get lucky. TomA

This part isn't a tube, its a little jet basically with a column in the middle that takes a 90 degree turn at the end to inject into the throttle body.  I've thought about sticking it back in and using jb weld to plug the crack.  It's cracked halfway through now.

Ok, thanks for the warning.
There was a little voice inside me saying, "ask the forum guys how to remove this".  But my impatience and stubbornness won, I lost.  As my father-in-law says "some people like to struggle".
that's me.

If you can't get one from Harisuluv, I have one...but I'm not willing to give up my only spare yet.  So...I'm trying to make one, just for "s#^7s" and giggles, I think it would be a good challenge!  stay tuned, here is my progress so far.

As a side note, I clean them by putting an appropriate sized wire into an Xacto knife handle and using it to reach into the carb body to clean them without removal.  It takes awhile to succeed, but I've been successful many times.

For those who realize the difficulty in making one of these, yes it has to be sized just right to be a press fit.  I may have to make a holder to put it in straight because of the "press-fit" requirement and if it goes in too loose, throw it away, the risk isn't worth it.  the actual orifice size will be off a little, but a smidge more gas from the accel pump shouldn't be that big a problem should it? If I figure out a way to measure the flow rate I can pinch the tube at the orifice for lesser volume.

just for fun...

Ok, here it is. .115" diameter at the base, same length as the one I copied, similar access channel in the base and an outlet hole just a smidge bigger than the original.  I have small drill bits, but not THAT small!  So one carb is going to get a smidge more fuel than the other 3 when the accel pump squirts which means your carbs will be unbalanced for what? 2-3 seconds?
The 3" bar of aluminum has a hole in it to hold the jet straight while pushing it into the hole.  The bar will slip off easily for removal when finished.

PM me your address, I'll send it in a bubble envelope and you can mail me the shipping.

Or... get one from harisuluv.

I had fun!

I had fun!

Personally, I'd like to see some photos of the work in process.  Lathe and super-sharp HHS?  I would give this a go if I needed the part, but in general, my patience for working small is severely limited.

I could offer a new body.  That jet is super small and hard to reproduce to the right spec.  Just let me know what the stamping is for the carbs.

thanks guys for the great options.  I have one more source I'm waiting to hear back from on the nozzle only.  If they don't have one, I'll take you up on that offer harisuluv.

harisuluv

Attached are pics of the number three carb, the one I need, the number is kinda weird.  I couldn't make out the last digit, some kind of 1 with a slash through it. image 2188
I also included a pic of the number 4 carb number. image 2190
Let me know how much, and what works for payment.
thanks

Hi, I've been sick the last few days.  Looks like you have 42B carbs, ok.  Now which cylinder is the carb you need it for?  When sitting on the bike #1 is on the left.
