Progress of my 74 750 build
« on: February 20, 2017, 10:17:54 AM »
So the time has come to finally come to make some progress on my 750 that I picked up two years ago.  it is a complete, running bike that just needs a little love.  Wiring is a mess since the guy I got it from lost the key and just wired in an on/off switch so I want to clean that up and get everything else good to go.  No real crazy plans, just do the cafe/brat style flat seat and make it fun to ride again.  I want to someday do a complete resto on a bike but this one was in a little too rough of shape for that so cafe style it is!!

Also, I will be making some videos along the way.  I don't know if sharing youtube videos on here is frowned upon or not, if so I can remove it.

OK so updates, Got my seat fitted and frame hoop welded in place.  Since I don't plan on running a rear fender we decided to weld in a plate under the seat and modify the stock plastic fender to protect the electronics and battery.  Its nice to have a father that has been a welder his entire life!! LOL.  We also got the engine out of the frame and should be starting on that soon.  Nothing major, just replacing the timing chain and seal it back up.  The engine has 20k miles on it but has been sitting for about 5 years so just a total inspection and replace whats needed.  Not really planning on a total rebuild, at least not at this point.  That could change.

I also tried to pull a dent out of my tank with a Harbor Freight dent puller which worked pretty much as you would expect a 12 dollar dent puller to work.  I will let the video speak for itself.  LOL

Thank you!!  Like I said, it helps having a father that is a welder/perfectionist.  LOL.  It looks slightly different now sice we decided to weld in a seatpan to protect the underside of things.  Just a thin flat steel panel welded from the hoop up to the cross brace where the seat mounts.

Well, big congrats to pops.  Good to have projects like this that you can share with him.  I am building a KZ650 with my daughter who is a better welder than me.   :)

I'm envious.  My dad passed when I was in high school.  He would have loved working on projects like these SOHC4 builds.
