Loosing my faith in Amazon
« on: February 11, 2017, 10:05:49 AM »
For the past year or so I am really starting to distrust Amazon.  Their shipping for Prime no longer holds their 2 day shipping guarantee.  I routinely have shipments take 4 days that were "guaranteed" 2 day Prime.  I don't really care because I'm not in some emergency - but it irks me nonetheless.

But more importantly I'm finding that their search engine is directing me to similar but incompatible stuff.  Were I not educated about it I'd be misled into buying all sorts of parts (exhaust gaskets, rebuild kits, etc) that simply don't fit.  Even when their little app does say "This fits your xxx!"

Didn't use to be that way.

As little as 3 years ago Amazon was very trustworthy.  I never had issues finding what I needed nor did they ever take more than 2 days on their 2 day shipping.  About the time they started selling e-bay items.

This time of year, its weather. Period.
If its snowing somewhere, all bets are off.

We had a 6 pallet shipment 5 days late due to being stuck in CO and then again in Oregon due to those storms earlier this month..

Used to be naive, now we're just spoiled! even four days to ship ain't all that bad. I remember when purchases of old parts on ebay could take a couple of weeks. But I hear ya, I actually thought Amazon could get a part I needed for my Tahoe in 2 days so i could work on it over a weekend. It came late saturday afternoon instead of the day before. I still got the work done on Sunday but would've rather worked on in on saturday. My bad for expecting miracles.

Ain't that the truth. To many #$%*s not enough toilet paper. Or there is, but it's that stuff that may as well have come out of an ink jet tray. I agree with the 2 day though. I it's only happened to me once, but it was a bulky item. I hate to have something offered that isn't alway available though.

That pisses me off too. They take your payment and then send you an email saying the part is 'back-ordered' and will be delivered when they have it. All the time your money is earning them interest. Last time I dealt with DSS though I was pleasantly surprised, they called and gave me the option of waiting or looking elsewhere.

I am a geezer so I remember mail order stuff could take months to receive. I used to buy bike and jeep stuff from JC Whitney in the 70's. i'd get stuff so long after I ordered it that I'd forgotten about it.  It was like getting a Christmas present in the off season.  So even now if I get something within a week from the time I made a couple of mouse clicks I am happy. If I get something in a couple of days I am fricking amazed. Being easy to please is a fine thing, and relaxing too. ;)

I live less than 10 miles from the Amazon warehouse (or used to anyway).  So I grew accustomed to having packages show up the next day.  Maybe my expectations need to change - but I pay them 100 bucks a year for Prime, the least they could do is honor the 2 day shipping.

Please, don't buy parts on Amazon.  They don't have a foothold in the MC niche yet.  I don't see any need to help large mega-corps enslave us all.  I like the idea of a few niches not being owned by corporations.

I know eBay is a popular whipping boy for some, but after a few hundred parts-buying experiences, I always look there. These are usually little guys like me and most of them work their ass off, ship same day, etc. And there are plenty of new parts there.

By contrast, ordering from folks like Partzilla I have never received anything faster than 10 days. Not once.

But the BEST is my local Honda dealer, for Honda parts. I email them a complete list and if I need it fast, I say so, and pay the $10 expedite fee Honda charges them, and I have it 2 days later, max. It is definitely worth having a relationship with your local if you can make it work.

I so agree with you.  Problem is people are brainwashed into thinking amazon and ebay are the only options to buy stuff.

Partzilla does suck.  I agree with you on that one.

I have no faith, never used them
I live in Canada, so weeks to receive is the norm..
But,
I ship to WA state cuz its cheaper/faster/less handling..........less damage..and greater choice of shippers, but it means 1/2 day on the road to pick up stuff..
I am sure Amazon is like ebay, in that mostly they care about making money..NOT helping everyone.

So I got to say from my POV.....  You aint even got an issue..

As yas only messed up one order for me in five years and they went above and beyond to fix it. If you reach out, they will take care of you.  They use other carriers for shipping and sometimes that's the issue

That is ok just throw on a custom saddle and some rear sets and race Eskimos around.  If you see any hot Eskimo women be sure to let me know.  I am not having any luck with eskimobridefinder.com

BINGO! Me too. I've supplied 90% of the parts my old 550s off of ebay. We lost our last moto wrecking yard so it's ebay for used or maybe get super lucky on CL but then you have to drive an hour or so to pick up stuff. At least ebay I get it delivered to me. For old vehicle used parts it's hard to beat.
