Slow jet 77-78 550 carbs
« on: June 11, 2017, 07:42:59 AM »
When jetting these pd carbs do any of you guys change the slow jet??  A lot of stuff I've read says "they're pressed in and unchangeable". I have taken them out previously to clean them. Pliers and twist a little.  Tap them back in.  Should I not have removed them?? I'm running pods and a 4 into1 Delkevic.  I may just bump the needle up one slot and raise the main

I was just referred to a couple places that sell that push-in pilot jet;Honda doesn't show any replacement and as far as I know it never had a part #.What size pilots do you have in there now ?

It had a 42 Jet in, when I tore them down, I replaced with an aftermarket 42 jet. Just tapped it in. Seemed to seat just fine. It runs great as is so far

Slow jet #42 was on the CB500K3 and possibly on some models CB550 K3/4. Depends on the carbnumber. You can find that number here (see pic). Some folks will react by presenting diagrams that depict what does what at what throttle. You can ignore that. It's all from books. If your bike runs well, leave it as it is.

Pliers and twist a little.  Tap them back in.  Should I not have removed them?? Its perfectly normal to remove/clean/change them.   I'm running pods and a 4 into1 Delkevic.  I may just bump the needle up one slot and raise the main.  OK. What tests have you done to verify that a change is indeed needed?  And exactly how much change is needed?
