Something new for the Motogadet geeks
« on: February 25, 2017, 11:46:43 AM »
https://motogadget.com/shop/en/m-unit-blue.html

The new unit, while having a bit more organized and expanded layout for the circuits, does feature some pretty well thought out and needed functionality. Bluetooth for your a phone Speedo, softwRe updates, an app for your phone (Android only) and what not.

Looks like the price has jumped about $50 give or take.

Pretty limited list of phones that are compatible. Old model Galaxy S4's, 5's, 6's and Note 4 but no Note 5? And why even include the Galaxy Tab's? Who would use a giant tablet on their motorcycle? And not even include the IPhone.  Not sure they are in tune with the current phone market.

Eh, I'm good with the current M-unit. Seems like a lot of gimmicky stuff you don't need anyway. The app doesn't even have a speedo yet relies on rpm input to tell you when to check/change your spark plugs, oil, chain, tires etc... huh? My Ulysse Pro speedo app is all I really need.

There are probably a lot of people who either may wish to update their software via tablet, or travel with a tablet and want/need the capabilities after riding. Who knows, buts its an app so its platform portable.

Well, the same could be said of the M-Unit, huh? For a first release software version, not all features will be in production. Their "market" primary is Europe, not Vintage CBs so perhaps it is "us" not "they" who are out of touch?

I'm rather pleased with v2 but I do see some benefits of software upgrades and the expanded layout of the Blue. Perhaps an iOS app will be forthcoming that will help me (I'm an Apple guy since Lincoln was president) but would still run their gauges anyway.

Let's hope that one day you, instead of directing us to ever more mailordering (Look what Santa brought!) and from one blister to the next to open, you'll be let's say kind enough to report what you've invented and made yourself. Just for a change? I mean, those thingies I've seen you praising IMO aren't worth the packaging they come in and they seem to have in common that they need endless threads to help installing them. Gadget, the word alone.

I'm on this and other forums every day, for about 2 years now. Deltarider, I've never seen Calj737 act the way you describe. He's always presented himself as a humble gentleman, ready to help others.

I can see the benefit of updating with a notebook but why not concentrate on current phones that people still use and might actually have with them when they are riding? I could see adding those old phones and tablets later but why even bother until all the newest phones have software written for them. It just seems backwards to me.

And as far as Apple goes I could give two #$%*s about them but any company with business sense would include them in the launch of a new product (maybe they don't use Apple products in Europe or from your comment, maybe the only people with the newest phones are vintage CB enthusiasts and they all live in the USA lol).

Good for them though for thinking (mostly) out of the box with all their products they've made for bike enthusiasts. I'm sorry for bashing your little baby. The majority of their stuff is well thought out but they sure aren't without their wtf moments.I'll still keep using their products.

The android system is used more world wide than apple, at least that is what I have heard. In the U.S. that may not be the case.

If you'd extract that melon you refer to as a cranium from tal cavity, you will clearly see I've never directed anyone to buy a MotoGadget M-Unit. On the contrary, I've advised people from a complete position of experience to their benefits and challenges. As for things I've made myself, well, if I were the immodest type and seeking public admiration, I'd post to my IG account, fill reams of my build threads with stuff I cook up on a lathe, mill or with my welders. As it is, I've documented things I've made where I feel like information useful to others might be important.

I don't seek, nor do I care about your opinion on matters of importance to me. You're an opinionated muppet in my book who opines endlessly about your myopic view from your own private Idaho. As the title clearly states (had you bothered to pay attention) it is informational for those who are interested in these things, and should you find your useless self not among that crowd, please politely go pound sand and spare the rest of us your pitiful diatribe.

Or go back to your vintage copies of the Sears catalog and jerk yourself off until you pass out. Either way, I don't give a rats-

I've got both - Android for my personal and a work-supplied iPhone, and I don't know how to use either of them properly.

I hear the old Nokia 5310 is making a comeback, can't wait to dig my old one out so my kids think I'm cool again rather than taking the piss out of my unsmart smart phone skills as they do now   ;D

And as I can't even use my Sky remote, I think I'll pass on the M gadget thingy...

It ain't my baby. I only linked it because there had been several people intrigued by news of its pending announcement. I like their stuff in general because of its quality and integration. I think the m.ride app is far more targeted at the more modern rider who uses their products than the vintage crowd. Heck, most of us (speaking personally only) are over *er-hem 40ish for the 15th or 20th time.  ;) These new fangled computers are such are more hassle than their worth.

But living a life in the Tech world for 2.5 Aeons, I am more than competent with these dastardly things. Until they release an iOS version, I wouldn't even have means to evaluate the app, so I'm not flustered a bit. The v2 serves my needs perfectly well.

Not that Cal needs any more defending, but I can remember at least 8 or so occasions where he told people NOT to buy something, like the M-button.

I assume they can be ordered now. Whether they are "in stock" domestically I have no clue. But all the retailers order through the same Distributor, so whether you buy domestically or directly, I imagine you can. (But don't tell Delta I encouraged you to...)

Looks nice and I like the specs you mentioned, but I can't read the website! It says I'm on the English site but it's still in German. You lost the war, stop pushing this on us!

Apple all the way.
