eBay Chuckle Heads
« on: December 10, 2006, 08:38:15 AM »
It is amazing lately the number of ChuckleHeads that I have encountered on eBay. What has worked out like a blessing in disguise is the fact they give a seller every reason to ban them before they ever bid saving sellers piles of time and heartache.

People who do not read the description:

Now WTH is this? Why would someone want to buy something that is expensive and not read all the text or terms? I think some have more money than sense. I have had about 10 inquiries each on a bike I am selling. Examples “What state are you in?” (Furious, because the chucklehead did not read the auction) this info is listed in 3-4 places. “How much to ship to ?? ?” again it does say in the description no shipping on bikes EVER. This would be a great idea if I was not 3 hours from any terminal to do so.

I don’t ban for asking legit questions. I usually quote the description and move on. If they are abusive, then they get banned. Sending a completely worthless message usually gets them banned. Like “HAHA what a POS, I dum 2tupid 2use speel ceck”.

International shipping:

I do not ship this international anymore. I just had to stop doing this. It says in about 15 places that I don’t, but crappy eBay just lets’em bid anyway. If you are a seller who sells only to “?” then why are users that are nowhere near you allowed to bid. If a seller in OZ is selling a bike to OZ or NZ only why the hell can I bid on it? Not that I have done this.

Really starting to really dislike eBay.

That's while I still bemoan the demise of SellYourItem.com. It was a nice alternative to eBay.

As a seller you have the dealing hand, so I don't see what is the reason to complain.

If the people doesn't read the item description just ignore him. He will probably re-read if he's interested or move along if he's not. I don't see the reason to ban people. As a seller I'm interested in having the more bids possible to jack up the price. Hopefully some serious bidder will be interested and the morons will work for me increasing the winning bid. If the win and don't want to complete the transaction, I do either ignore them -if the fees are low- or file a fee refund and let eBay do the work. I don't give negative feedback.

The same goes to shipping internationally. It costs the same for you to take your box to the PO box regardless of where the box is going to. If the buyer is from any "safe" country you shouldn't have any trouble at all. And if you don't want to sell him just forget about him and relist the item.

You are not right in one thing: you can actively ban people to bid in your auctions depending on their home country. Apart from listing your preferences, you can specify which countries are allowed to bid. If I were you I would keep saying "Only ship to US" and leave the bids open for everybody. If somebody wins the auction and you are not willing to complete the transaction you can always have an excuse not to complete the transaction.

In my more than 500 transactions, I would say 90% of the purchases from the US were from sellers that "would only ship to US". I've said this before: a good feedback rating and a Paypal account -and good english skill btw- is all it takes to convince a reluctant seller to complete a transaction. I would say that I've noticed some of them are even "excited" to sell outside the US and many have told me mine was their first international transaction ever. A positive feedback as soon as the packet is in my hands give them peace of mind and let them continue their business knowing that not everything outside their borders is evil....

Some of them didn't want to complete the transaction and I respected it. We even exchanged positive feedback. And in many other cases I was just outbid and increased the final price, but I will never know if I would have get my item had I been the winning bidder....

I know what you mean Tom, people just ask questions because they don't know how to read. But somehow they seem to know how to type? I don't get it either. But don't ban because of smart ass questions, We are just having fun with you...........Here's your sign!!! :D You've got to admit that sissy bar is totally PIMP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

speaking of heads... every one in this thread makes me chuckle!...  yoda, of course, his is old man haired and spok eared.  that other guy has a funny head too... its bald.  even ra-oool has that... ooops sorry raul.

tom, even your head is humorous because it is swelled so much!

anyway, tom i like your new avatar... artsy and respectable.

you clean up well.

as for the ebay prospects... i think you can base it all on the rating that they have.  no need to ban or anything.  just sell to them or don't.  they are a$$ munches either way.

we all know ebay doesn't work the way we want it to... let's just exploit it while it lasts

jk... i'm fair to you if you're fair to me.  and, i think that is what it all comes down to.

G'Day Tom, I'm pretty sure you can put in a "block" to stop international bidders from bidding on your auctions, occasionally I'll bid on something and get a message that says that "the seller has forbidden bids from international bidders", but all I do is email them that if I win they can send the part to someone I know living in then US, and they're ok about it?

Like Raul says, because wages are much higher in Europe and the UK particularly, than in the US, there are plenty of "cashed up" international bidders who are prepared to pay more money for your parts than just the US Ebayers, so why would you want to reduce your profit? I've sold over 100 oil coolers this year, but only 8 in Australia, so if I chose to refuse international shipping, I'd be a silly buggar indeed!

My Ebay auction description says "I ship anywhere, you pay, I ship" and of course I can stipulate more expensive shipping with insurance and tracking if necessary, that way I know that their boxes have arrived safely and they can't #$%*. Cheers, Terry.:))

This is the kind of "Chuckle head" garbage I get. I had to tell this guy 4 times to go away, ban him from my auctions, call eBay, call the police, and call his ISP to get it to stop. Some people have nothing better to do.

Your answer to my honest question was condesending, making me feel stupid. I simply asked if the original headlight and blinkers were attached to the fairing.  Some fairings come with aftermarket headkights, and people put aftermarket blinkers on. Then the originals are lost. I was looking at the bike, and could not tell if the original equipment was there.
If you keep answering people like " I am not even going to post this one, Here's your sign. You ask like you ahave never seen a bike with a fairing".   Nobody would bid with you anyway.
After reading your ad, i would never even think of bidding, you saved me the trouble with that ad you place.
Please do call the police, i'm certain they would come knocking at my door. Like i said, i've forgotten more about cycles than you will ever learn.
Do not write anymore offensive emails to me, as i have reported you to ebay, and i will call the police too.

Was not an aftermarket fairing.... Was a Suzuki Fairing (again here's your sign)
No body would bid with me? - This guy has Gonerea of the mouth. Surprise dip shyte someone already has.
I did tell him nicely to piss off and not using that language....

He was just a jack ass and I answered his question. I can not help he is a chuckle head.

And for the dig about being a know it all
Here is his user name:

If he had looked at the pictures, it would have alleaviated him making a total and complete A$$ of himself.

I think I might do some bidding Tom, worst thing I can do is drive the price (and your profit margin) up? Those old Suzuki's are great bikes, and nothing quite sounds like one at "full song", ha ha! :))

Seriously Tom, I don't see where is the big deal. Even when that specific buyer didn't look at the pictures, a simple "yes" or "no" or "look at the pictures" would have suffice.

I've dealt also with very very exigent sellers and, from the buyer point of view, they are a pain in the back. They say when do I have to pay, how do I have to pay, they say when it fits them to ship the equipment, get pissed off if you tell them to pack it properly -like if I haven't had things poorly packed-, and at the end you feel like the seller is making you a favour selling you a piece of old junk and accepting your dirty money. I don't like that kind of sellers either.

Tom, as you post your points of view I feel free to give you my two cents, because I guess that's what you expect from us. It seems you are expecting way too much from people in general and that way you will end up sadly disappointed. If you would lower your expectations you would be more happy. Just by posting this rant tells a lot. Do you think you are the only one in the world who have to deal with stupid, arrogant or even scammers? But they don't rant as much as you do. They simply deal with it, accept it and go on with their lives. It's much better for their heartburn and, in my opinion, makes you stronger little by little for when you have to endure nasty people in real life.

Even more, there is a more subtle way to tell somebody is stupid without saying so. A simple "look at the picture and you will find the answer" will do. Sometimes I've been asked about shipping cost -I always specify it in the description- and I simply reply: "Thanks for your question. It's X, as stated in the item description". If some stupid wants to buy my item and is willing to pay, it won't be me the one who insult him and send him away. When the money is on your hands, you can't tell wich one came from stupid hands and wich one came not.

Personally, I don't think a little common sense is too much to ask of people...

True, the whole "just deal with it" advice can make you stronger, but some people need to vent. Holding a lot of strong feelings inside for a long time can be detrimental. I'm that type of person. Rather than go into detail about what's bothering me, I just keep it inside and it festers. (My wife knows something is wrong when I get really quiet!) Hold it all in long enough and the slightest little thing can then set you off.

Hi El Cheapo
As I am currently on the buying side of the e-bay problem. I am glad to hear that the sellers have to deal with less that wonderful people.
One of the many things that sellers do to annoy me is to tell me that they are selling this item for (fill in the blank). I guess that this relives the seller from the need to do an honest and competent job of selling this item.

Tom, if I turned away (or even made a snide comment to) every customer who asks me a stupid question at work, I'd lose about 75% of sales and be out of a job.  It's not just ebay, it's people.

And besides, an idiot's money is just as good as anyone elses.  Just answer their questions, take their money, and be happy. ;D

Too true Gordy, I was talking to my brother last night, he was an Ebay "Power Seller" last year, but he's just bought a motel, so is pretty much out of the Ebay scene now, anyway, he's had thousands of transactions with no negatives and only one neutral.

When I asked him how, he just said, "I treat my customers with respect when I communicate with them, I tell the truth in all my item descriptions, I ship as soon as I've got their money, and I offer a money back guarantee on everything I sell"

I think that pretty much covers it, if you're gonna be a professional seller, you can't afford to take a high handed approach. Be honest with your descriptions, treat your customers (or potential customers) with respect, and ship the items before you spend their money, and not only will you reduce your negative/neutral feedback, but you'll get some repeat customers, and you'll build a good reputation, which for any business, is "money in the bank". Cheers, Terry. :))

Really I was not snide to the guy, not that I could tell. We as Americans suck. We offend just about everyone but have the THINNEST SKIN of any country on the planet.

We have turned into the kid that gets picked on all the time on the playground. We cry, #$%*, complain, and take quick offense to just about anything. Even the letter A. Personally I think we are pathethic. With all the whinning going on, no wonder other countries want to kick our ass.

I am not anti-American, I am anti-stupid.

I just ask that people use thier brains or blow them out with thier favorite firearm.  ::)

As an ebay seller I understand your frustration. I just got the ol "will this fit my bike?" I have all the dimensions of the part listed and the guy gives no details of his bike! I could give him the "Heres your sign".....( YOUR STUPID ) Which I would love to do, but I replied telling him that the measurements are listed in the description and He will have to compare it to his bike. He went on to buy the product. So Yes,  People are just plain ass stupid but you can't tell them that because they don't know it yet.

So, what's wrong with wetting your bed Hocky? Geez mate, it's not my fault that I've got an "over-active bladder"!

Well lucky for you that you didn't make mention of bed-poopers, or I'd report you to Bob Wessner, he's proud of the fact that he still regularly poops at 8am every day, but he's just a tad embarrassed that he doesn't actually get out of bed until 9? :)

As a semi retired ebay seller. I paid off my mortgage and began to lose interest. What I have found as a Corporate Training guru is that people do not read!!!!!!!! When I post an auction, I use the <p> command between each sentence or two. I tell them what I want them to know in small chunks of no more than  5 - 10 lines. Studies show people read down to about that far. I get less dumb questions and better results. Here is an example of what I mean:  http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=002&sspagename=STRK%3AMESO%3AIT&viewitem=&item=120055277170&rd=1
