Looking for web sites that support the DT & MX400 (yamahas)
« on: October 29, 2006, 09:51:26 PM »

I have a 75' DT400B and 2 MX400s that I'm trying to find web sites that deal with them (at least one of these models). Anybody?? I know that they are Yam--a--ha--s but, at least they are Japanese and the price was RIGHT!! Might be able to make 1 MX out of the 2.      Thanks

Bill I think I mentioned once I have a 78 dt125/175.  Let me know if you find anything.

Bill,

You might try posting this question on the SR500 Forum.  A few of the members run other Yamahas as well, including dirt bikes.  Worth a shot, and they're a nice bunch.

Nick, I've got more projects than you can shake a stick at! Without telling the specifics just yet, I've got a structure that's a 12' x 20' tubular frame with tarps (10 under there, along with some misc wheels and a few frames), a swing set frame with tarps over it (10 under there), a 12' x 14' storage building (4 there, along with a CB450K frame, misc forks, gas tanks and a few fenders) 3 out in the back yard under a cover of their own and 4 in the 1-car garage and 1 has a sidecar on it, along with a few motors, and a fair amount of motor parts). I think I've missed some some where. Keep in mind that all of these need from some work to a lot of work and parts. My mini budget makes me have to get very resourceful and Very patient. At the present time, I'm trying to redo my storage setup ro better accommodate them. Thing is, I'll probably not live long enough to be able to take care of all of them. You know the type of person who'll take in the stray dogs & cats? Well, I take in stray bikes, you might say. Some I have picked up to use for parts on others but, then I hate to part them out.

Terry, I WISH I had that Diamond mine! I knew you mentioned that DT but, I guess I didn't realize that you still had it. I'll PM you either later tonight or tomorrow.

medic,  Thanks for the info and I'll definitely check it out.

Later on guys and thanks for the responses,

Hey, I definitley understand about the DT thing. My whole idea, behind the 250 Jawa build, is
to recreate a bike like my Dad built back in the early 60's. As far as that tunnel goes, you need to
tell me where it is, cause I think I forgot  ??? ;D Take care and I'll catch you later on,  Bill

Mordechai,   Thanks for the lead on the SR500 site. A couple of the guys jumped on the subject of "A Site For DT & MX400s" and have given me some info that they have found and they're looking for more. Couldn't have done it without you. Thanks again. Later on,   Bill

Hi Bill,
I had one of the 90 DT400MX that was brought into Britain in late 70's
Bit of a slug stock but I did some port work, modified airbox and fitted a 250MX expansion chamber. (forget make, something Italian,  Bassani maybe?)
It woke up quite a lot (even with only 36mm carb it would out accelerate and out top speed Kawasaki KX420, a real race bike)
Terrible gas milage after mods though, 9mpg flat out, 35 miles on a tankfull ;D
was still street legal and registered as well. I rode it in a couple of Enduro's but it was too heavy compared to competition bikesa lthough I did manage to finish a couple of events
Probably still have some pics somewhere 'safe'

Hey pj, thanks for your response. I really thought that I'd get more reaction than I have. I'm glad to get what I have though, to include yours. I remember when the 400s came out and they seemed to be pretty good as is but I know that some work, in the right areas, can do wonders. Right now, I'm just going to try to get it going and then I might try to do a little work on it. I've also got a Kawasaki F9 350 Big Horn, that's in pretty good shape as far as completeness goes and has good compression. Haven't messed with it too much but, haven't been able to get it to fire up yet. When I get the chance, I'll check to make sure that the key, in flywheel, hasn't sheared and try to put forth a serious effort to get it running too. I would be interested in any porting info, if you have, of know of any out there. Thanks again for your response.  Later on, Bill

That's pretty good, on the battle field, if a soldier needed medical assistance, he called
for a "Medic". Here, I asked for help on something and a "Medic" responded! :D Thanks to
Mordechai link to the SR500 forums, that led to dirtriders.net, which also led to
allthings moto.com. Funny how that works. Anyway, Thanks again there Mordechai,
things are starting to come together, info-wise on the 400 dirt bikes. ;) Also got some
assistance from usa2strokers.com which I found out about from here but, for the life
of me I can't remember who provided that useful bit of info. Whoever did it, Thanks for that
also. All the help was definitely appreciated. :)
