Honda cb400f Headstock
« on: March 01, 2017, 06:16:12 AM »
Hi everyone, first post. I am retired,in my late sixties, my time is occupied by a new workshop and a 77 Honda cb400f. I bought the bike as a project, it was basically a rebuilt engine in a repainted frame. I was told the  the accompanying boxes contained "most"of the other parts, well 51% is most i suppose, so i c'ant complain can i !  First task was to remove a steering lock in the headstock, it had been there for forty years and had been painted over in situ, it was well and truly stuck. Following at  tip on this site, the bolt on a wire method was used and after a long struggle out it came, Next task is the ALL BALLS tapered bearings installation, everything prepared and ready to fit, cheeky i know, but put simply, to save me a lot of grief, on a cb400 is it the thick or thin bottom washer?  Thanks in anticipation

if memory serves me right, it's the thick one.  just measure your existing races with a couple bearing in them and you can match it up for the bottom set

Measure it, my 75 used the thin one.

Yes, please measure both of your spacers, as well as the thickness of the lower seal where it fits under the race, and report your results. (The optimum thickness of the spacer plus the seal is .125".)
Oh, and welcome! :)
