Bill, I did reinstall the case protector. I am keeping the bike original including the paint, hence, the Patina Bike. Just cleaning the rust and dust and doing the safety items - bearings, chain, sprockets, carbs, tires, 3,000 mile tune, etc. Paint is nice OEM except there's paint missing near the gas cap. Not sure what he spilled, but maybe he was trying to clean the rust out of this wrinkle tank as it looks like a caustic chemical mark.

Need to replace the fork seals and those bad gators. The engine case cleaned up nice, but to bad the PO painted the head. The new Conti is on the rim and the hub cleaned up nice. I think the last ride the PO took had something to do with mud. Sealed front bearings installed.

This must be a really early build as the front caliper pad is a lot narrower than any of my KO's. Check it out. This is the first one I have seen like this. Keep in mind the build date is 11/69, but the warranty card engine number says it was a sandcast (5987) before the chain broke.

I know it is the patina bike, but the top tree is missing so much paint I just have to paint it. I mean it looks really bad.

Agreed, thats beyond patina.  Nice job on the hub, those can be a pain with the spokes on.

That looks great John, I have seen a set of pads like those, (in my first K1) I've got a feeling they were after-market. Why does the warranty card say it's a sandcast? It's obviously not, and the numbers are 7000 apart, so it would never have had a sandcast engine fitted that late, engines were regularly taken off the production line and tested to destruction, so the original, untouched K0's will always have a frame number lower (by a few hundred, not thousands) than the engine, so I'm guessing that it was just an error at the dealership. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Yah, I could not figure why a 11/69 would have a sandcast number. The owner said his dad (deceased) broke a chain and had the new cases installed. He said his dad never tossed anything out and he has the cases so I am waiting for that to see what the number is.

My 14,100 has the wrinkle tank but the double cut fender was bobbed on the front. The two hole hub and rolled rim was lost to the lester mags. At least the rear is an 18" I didn't make a move on buying my buddy's K0, he had two 750's in for engine rebuilds and was all amped up about it. I decided to let him cool off a little.

Yours is cleaning up nicely, it's always difficult to find a stopping point but painting the triple is a good idea. One of the guys on the sandcast site always warns against patina here and too new looking there. I have that problem on one of mine. The sidecovers are new looking because the paint doesn't match the fade of the tank.

I've gotta stop playing with my other bikes and start pulling my '69 K0 apart. I know the front wheel isn't K0, and the rear has the obligatory 16" "Hog" rim so popular back in the day, but I haven't checked to see if it's a K0 hub. Luckily I've been collecting the necessary bits, so I think I've got at least one of each here, maybe more. Cheers, Terry. ;D

The son of the PO owner says he may even have the OEM exhaust hanging in the barn. The barn is a couple hours away from the son and he has not been there yet. I plan to get the cases from him no matter the condition. He said the air box should be there too. I offered to go with him to the barn for quick ID of parts and who knows what else I may find there. I wonder how the dealer of this bike could have messed up the warranty card. I am looking at it now stapled to the inside of the pristine owners manual #1005987. I mean this is pretty important that the dealer get that number right for the warranty work. The card says he picked the bike up Nov. 29, 1969 so he must have ordered it early as I know it took a while for the dealers to get them. And yes, this bike came with the wrinkle tank and double cut fender. Check out this rear rim. Is this what you call a rolled rim?

The problem with repainting..
Some would rather see it as you got it..and it was pretty damn good..top 10%
Bet you get more I would have left it, than Yeah good idea repainting..
I mean it had 60 % of the paint on the tree.
Lots of restored ones, but always a BIG TREAT to see an original one..

An original paint Henderson four set a record price at recent auction....probably double what restored could bring.... And the whole thing looked like your triple tree..

Well if you missed that one Frank there's a nice restored Henderson 4 only a couple of suburbs over for sale for $100K AUD, but I can't decide whether I want that one, or the Godert/Egli Vincent they're selling for only $95K. Decisions, decisions......... ;D

I think Honda had latitude on the model years, My sandcast was titled as a 70 but the diecast sold next was titled as a 69.

Yeah, well I looked at it again Frank and it's actually an Indian 4 not a Henderson, (I know that they're related) this one is restored, but it looks like new, I'd ride it! ;D

Yes, I did remove the triple since the paint was so bad and I am the one who would be looking at it...at least for a while. No plans to chrome or paint anything else. Still have not heard back from the PO about the cases and title. Will have to contact him again. I would start the VT registration, but want to give him a chance since I held a $100 bill in front of him if he can locate his dads title.
