1971 CB750 Transmission
« on: June 03, 2005, 11:24:13 AM »
I am restoring a 1971 CB750 that has been sitting for 20 years.  I got the engine running, but am having trouble with the transmission.  With the engine running, if I shift into any gear, I can't shift back out.  Once the engine is shut off, it shifts freely into any gear.  Any ideas?

Sounds like the clutch is stuck. It will do that after sitting.

If the clutch is stuck, change the oil.  Start the engine and let it warm up, to get the new oil circulated through the clutch.  THat'll free it.
