Authenticate
« on: March 04, 2017, 04:04:40 AM »
Hi guys is it possible to authenticate bike (engine No/ & frame No/) on SOHC/4 site.
Trying to make sure if my basket case purchase is the genuine artical.

Do SOHC/4 site keep a record of bikes still in existence around the world.

You may have seen this already but you can use this chart as a guide to at least see if your frame and engine are of the same year  http://www.hondachopper.com/engine/engine_timeline/timeline.html

Only Sandcast have a "registry". No bikes from the factory had matching engine and frame numbers, but the model years had frame # ranges, as did the motors. That's probably you're best resource for verifying proper year of each component.

This.

Otherwise, there were some aftermarket pieces from the era.  Monkeyrocco's bimota kit is a good example.  Exhaust pipes and seats and such are popular add-ons too.

The only blatant "copy" of a honda that I'm aware of are the Benelli Sei 500/4 and their inline-6.  The italians were chasing the market demand for the honda 4's.

First I've heard of a Benelli.

I'm guessing if you have one of those "knockoffs" - it'd be worth far more than your authentic CB750.

I think I heard the general rule is that within 50 is a matching number.

The number spread can be several hundred, one engine in a hundred was dyno tested and put back in the lot, some engines back in the corner sat longer than ones parked out in the front of the staging area, a bike that didn't pass QC would be repaired and then sent out, some got different engines and engines with problems were repaired and brought back to use. They were building them as fast as possible, Honda had a major investment to recoup.
