Topic: nut and lock nut on top of carbs

there is a nut and lock nut on top of my carbs that decide the position of the carburetor slides.  can anyone share how these should be set?  is there a measurement or a reference?  should it be adjusted to how far the slide dives into the carb?  if so, how should it look?

ekpent, thanks.  i do have a repair manual but there are a few differences usually with the carbs between my bike and the manual.

running thru the bench sync.  my slides won't go far enough down.  what am i missing?

May need to lower the idle adjuster screw. The single big knurled knob. That'll lower all slides simultaneously, then you can get on with the bench sync with the drill bit method or whichever way you're doing it.

i was looking thru the back side of the carb throats dave.  realized that after my reply.  dumb a$$ here.
