What oil after rebuild? cb750 /836
« on: March 09, 2017, 09:43:14 AM »
What oil should my cb836 use after a bottom and top end rebuild?
It has a race cam in it as well, does this effect the oil type?

Thanks!

Too many opinions here on specific oils to run, but I will 2nd ekpents post.
regular 20w50 dino oil.  Not synthetic.  Change it often during break-in.
I went on mileage....50, 200, 500, 1000...
@1000mi I switched to my preferred oil.

Endless opinions. I used rotella 15-40 dino for break in. And then keep using if after. Still using it, in all my bikes for that matter.

I followed this last time and pistons looked much better than the slow break in I did back in the days.
http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm

I have had the entire engine apart, new pistons and rings...
10w-40 (mineral).
I have just ordered Motul 3000 2x4L 10w-40 and 2x4L  20w-50.
10w-40 to start with, change oil after 50km, then another 10w-40 for 1000km more. Then 20w-50...

Or I'll give my really modded engine something better, Red Line Motorcycle oil 20W-50 that I have on the shelf

Motul has semi synth 5100 and better synthetic 7100 too. I have not tested Motul yet.  I guess that 5100 can be OK too.
I'll try that one in my K2 that are still in pieces in the garage.

You guys in USA have a lot of lubrication to use!
