intake boots
« on: March 07, 2017, 08:03:08 PM »
well my attempt at dot 3 fluid and wintergreen oil to soften up these rubber intake boots and airbox boots returned mixed results.  it sorta worked.  some spots soft, some still hardened.  definitely better but i can tell i'm going to need new at some point because there will probably be some shrinkage.  likely i'll go ahead and drop the $150 for all new sooner than later.  has anyone noticed a major difference between the oem boots and the replicas?  good, bad, ugly?  in the mean time i'll use a heat gun to work them on/off.

I bought these and recommend them. Shipping is fairly quick considering he is in Europe.

To your original post/question - I bought some $40 aftermarket boots. Three years later one of them ripped in half when I removed the carbs.

I replaced them with OEM ones. Should have done that from the get go.

haha.

thanks mark. yeah i'll get the oem.  old ones softened up a bit with some chem tricks.  also stuck them in the toaster oven on warm before i installed carb.  my wife wasn't too happy about me doing so but i did put them on foil, not right on the pan.  smelled good to me.

I bought cheap ones from cruzinimage. I saw cracks in 2 of them after a short while, around 2000 km.

Back to the good old working ones, ordered original Honda that never had cracked for me before, only become hard.  Good idea to check the cheap ones after while. Inside, not visible from outside.

My cheap ones also cracked. Might have been partially my fault, but they still were destroyed.

Original hard ones back on, might buy some new ones eventually.
