Oil pressure switch CB550K2
« on: March 11, 2017, 12:50:37 PM »
Has anyone had the opportunity to check out their oil pressure switch operation. My indicator light continues to stay on and I'm pretty sure I've got good pressure. How do you go about checking it?
Thanks for looking.

Get an oil pressure gauge with an adapter and get a correct reading before you do any damage.
Also pull off the oil pump and check clearances and o rings.

Not so quick. Probably the pressure switch is bad. Sooner or later they all seem to go bad. Just replace. They're cheap.

The pressure switch may be the problem but putting an oil pressure gauge on will show reality. No so hard when the cover is off.

Remove the wire from the switch and check the oil light is now off when the key is turned on - not likely, but if it is on then the sender wire is shorting to ground somewhere.
With the engine running use a multimeter on the ohms setting to check for connection between the switch contact and ground - there should be no connection, then kill the engine and recheck - meter should say zero ohms.

related question, to not start a new post thought id ask here...

i got a cb750k, new wire harness and new gauges from dime city, after connecting all the wires everything seems to work except the oil light indicator and the neutral light indicator on the gauges.. and yes i'm sure the wires are wired correctly, and the indicator lights do actually work.

today i will be pull the neutral switch and testing it with a multi meter, but i have no idea why the oil light wouldnt be working.. thoughts?
