Hello---First off I have to say my hat is off to the site builders and you regulars that give this forum an erudite and friendly flavor.

I was steered here by a friend from the Naked Goldwing site when I mentioned my latest acquisition. I didn't know what I had when I put my money down on the 750. My brother was driving and I shouted "Stop the car". It was parked on the side of the road with an attractive price tag and a big ass vetter windjammer on it and a even bigger ass trunk sticking out about a mile off the back, but it was a Honda and despite the unbecoming touring get-up I liked the looks of it. I guess it reminded me of my poor old 68 CL360 I had when I was 16 and lost track of during relocations back when I was younger and dumber.

Well, a bit of research told me what I had found and now I'm excited to make a shiny carriage outa this pumpkin. It came with all the original "naked" stuff: headlight, signals, ears, etc. Has the owners & shop manual and alot of original supporting docs.

So my question right now for anyone: done any business with www.thriftyrider.com? This place sounds too good to be true as far as OEM parts goes. Feedback? Review of transactions, etc.? Any experience to relate, good or bad would be most welcome.

Tomorrow I'll throw a picture or two up here of my 750. It's in pretty decent shape. Needs a seat and exhaust, but I think I can throw some money at it and still be ahead. My 17 year old son even likes it. Thinks it's So Way Cooler than my 82 Goldwing. He's right I guess.

Welcome Fuzzball.  I don't have any experience with ThriftyRider; however, they seem to be similar to other online retailers selling SOHC/4 parts.  We have a Resource List of Vendors that you might check out.  You will discover that vendors like ThriftyRider do not have all the parts they have listed, although they have prices listed for all parts.

Thanks, burmashave, for the Thrifity Rider opinion---sort of confirms my "too good to be true" suspicion

Here's my machine----

I'm loving working on it but I'm not sure what direction to go with it. Two things narrow my options: The mufflers are shot (head pipes are good) and I'm not going to spend $1,000 or even $400 on oems. So it's going to turn into a 4 in 2 instead of the original 4 in 4. So right away I'm not going to be able to go for the all-original treatment. The other thing is the seat. The king/queen thing on it is trashed and makes my eyeballs bleed anyway so that's going away right away. A little voice in my head says "Make it a one up." Any opinions on that idea? I think it would give it a semi-chopper look esp. with the tall handlebars. Don't want to go too far in the chopper direction though because the footpeg position dictates more of a cafe racer rider position. Bottom line is I want to do something different, but good. I'd welcome any suggestions or links to suggested treatments.

Also any opinions or methods of rear end lowering these things?

Yah, sure, thanks, eh?

uh, just a sec while I wipe the drool off my chin.
Wow. "Cafe" is a real beauty. I can only dream about that kind of time commitment but still, wholly inspiring and who knows maybe someday for me too. My hat is way off.
Nice links too. I see you went for the 4 into 2 Mac Performance set up. That'd be my choice too.
Question: ever have any trouble with oil leaking from the tachometer insert on the valve cover?

Yah, sure, thanks, eh.

Hey Fuzzball, about making your own seat and lowering the bike, you'll find lots of stuff if you do a search.  Both topics are regularly covered.  There's a current thread about fastening home built seats that you might want to check.
