forward controls ?
« on: May 27, 2016, 06:22:57 PM »
has anyone here made them for the A ?

I did a google image search, couldn't find anything.

the TC Bros. "universal" kit looks like it could be made to fit...

also, anybody have highway pegs installed ?
(not the kind that are integral to an engine guard or crash bars)

My 76 had these like you see on choppers.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/252397356403?lpid=82&chn=ps&ul_noapp=true

And if you look here half way down you will set a set of engine mounted pegs made by Drag Specialties I got. They are kinda hard to come by but they are great and tuck out of the way really well.

You may find some on ebay but you need to look for these with this rounded tear drop shape.  Not sure if others listed would fit.  A lot of the packages you see will say honda or CB750 but you wont see the year.  I look at the mounting holes and compare them to mine and most i see arent an exact fit If you can find these they mount right up and work really well.

you could easily modify the tcbros to work. just be sure you set the levers on the control arms, and brake and shift point to face the same direction, ie, straight down.  this will keep your linkages from binding.  they are simple, and will work fine.

k, this is the TC Bros. Honda SOHC CB750 Forward Controls Kit, # 102-0012
and their Universal Linkage Kit, # 102-0003...

I still need to paint the tubes that cover the threaded rods, and adjust the shifter linkage a bit (it needs alot of "stroke" on upshifts, downshifts feel ok).

here's what I had to do --

took the OEM shift lever, cut off the foot portion.

then bent the lever outward from the chassis a bit, so that it would clear the stock exhaust in the new "pointing down" alignment.

took the OEM brake lever, cut about two-thirds of it off, then had to cut it down the centerline -- here too, so that it would clear the stock exhaust in the new "pointing down" alignment.

I've tried several times to upload pics, but they wouldn't attach  ???

122JG,

How did your forwards work out? I've got two Amen Savior chops with 750A's and have been struggling with a forward brake setup that clears the aftermarket pipes and converter. I setup a jockey shift for the gears, so the brake is all I need for now.

Stevematic does your frame have a brake pivot? Cut the brake pedal off and keep the splined clamp. Weld a lever to the splined clamp. Take a 5/16 rod and put some bends on it to attach to the splined clamp and the brake pedal on your controls. You can use rode end joints to attach.

You should visit hondachopper.com

Thanks Medyo, the Amen frames do have the pivot sleeve welded in place on the frame. Do the angles of the levers need to be set in any particular way? I thought I saw somewhere in a post that they needed to be at 90 degree angles? I can't imagine where that should really make that much difference. I would think lengths would be of importance though. Thanks for the input!

do you mean perpendicular, or 90ยบ? perpendicular makes sense, and you want to be sure the lever you weld to the splined clamp is parallel to the lever you attach to on the forward control, or they will bind.
