Oil Filter Bolt

Hey Guys, Apologies if i'm thinking too far into this. But I just had a hell of a time getting my oil filter bolt off, and in the end, it messed up the nut on the end quite a bit.

I am going to get a new one but wasn't sure if it matters to have a "OEM Genuine Honda" oil filter bolt or if the aftermarket "emgo" version is alright to use? I like the idea of the larger nut on the Emgo one but my question is if anyone has ever had any issues with the little pressure relief mechanism inside the bolt itself?

I'm not 100% sure how it works so i didn't know if i should buy a honda one based on that little valve being an issue with the emgo ones... If guys have used the emgo bolts and they work fine, then that's awesome. Just wondering . Thanks.

I'll try to buy a Honda one otherwise. Thanks fellas.

Just buy a used one with a head that's still in good condition.   
They get over-tightened because o-rings shrink over time, then owners crank on them to stop the drip.
As Delta mentioned in your other thread, exposure can really do a number on them.
Change the o-rings whenever you change your filters, and dont over-tighten it.

SOunds good, thanks Flybox. Wasn't sure if there was anything special about the Honda one. Either way, I'll just pick up a HOnda one and be done with it. Thanks again.

 :)  i had the same problem ,, bought a aftermarket one from vintage cb750 for 12 bucks .  17 mm head so 1 socket to fit drain plug on pan, oil tank and filter . works great with no oil pressure problems

THat is great to know. i'll snag one up either way. I definitely like the idea of a larger hex on the end.  I've never been more happy to ride my cb750 than i am now and when changing the oil...bam stripped that bolt and my smile turned into many 4 letter words... haha.

Not sure I I posted in another thread of yours but the small hex head is there on purpose. A larger head and people might think to tighten it like a big bolt. Just keep in mind the the bolt is hollow and you're going into aluminum.

A PO of my CB650 welded a socket to the oil filter bolt. It looks like crap but all I have to do is put a 3/8" ratchet on the end, which is mighty convenient.

I mangled my OEM bolt years ago when I first bought my 750. It was already in bad shape then. I bought an aftermarket bolt with a 17mm head. Never had an issue after tens of thousands of miles and a pile of oil changes.
