Sandcast specific parts for rebuild?
« on: March 16, 2017, 04:24:25 AM »
I'd think that the head, valve cover and clutch cover gaskets are unique to Sancast. Does anyone know where to buy them.

What other parts are unique to sandcast engines are required for a rebuild?

Thanks Tim

You have to hunt through old barns and unloved motorcycle ads to find the mythical 750.

Even then, beware of crooks cons and clueless sellers who will label old roached out pieces of bike "sandcast" with the hope they'll fetch top dollar.

Good luck.

I've made the clutch cover gasket, the valve cover gaskets are the same. The head gasket is different but standard will seal with half of a bolt hole hanging out. Really, it's the same with the clutch cover.  Cometic will make gaskets on a  custom basis. I considered contacting them for pricing of a batch of sandcast specific gaskets.
I'm guessing there were 7414 made with the 9 hole clutch cover and the head gasket continued to 23 or 26,000 bikes.

Not exactly the question about sandcast related. The early bikes have different oil pan.
A lot of parts are labeled sandcast on eBay when they are much later.
The photo with a sandcast in parts might show?

There are several oil pans on Ebay marked sandcast and they clearly are not. (you'd think they would learn) I had to make my own pan gasket too.

I used to message those fools but they wore me out. L0L! I just took a pic of a standard head gasket on a sandcast head I'll move it to photobucket later and post.

Now someone tell me how incorrect I am and there's a good source for these parts new. Please.

Diecast but you can see the extra bolt hole in the head gasket at left center. This one came from a facebook guy in West Virginia. This engine had a replacement case and I assume was re-assembled by a dealer.
