Mine still works fine.. why change it?
Oh yeah.. a new-fangled one will make up for other problems in the electrical system.
But then, fix those problems and the stock one will work again...
This once again proves my theory: Time is the inverse of money. Spend a lot of money, spend little time. Spen a lot of time, spend little money. Spend lots of money and buy a modern regulator. Spend a bit of time cleaning electrical connections and check over the wiring and you're off and running...(this sound familliar with me, TT?

Of course, our fellow here has a legitimate problem with his as the connectors have broken off.
