The factory charging system is #$%*..  i will be designing and making a retrofit kit til use a modern charging system this winter. probably using VFR parts..
It will be 3d designed and cnc'd so i will be able to supply the parts needed to upgrade the charging on a cb550..
As far as i know there is nothing like that currently available..

Are you running the factory charging system?  That is enough to drive the fuel injection system?
I would doubt it.

That is fantastic.  I would love to get rid of that ridiculously heavy assembly but don't want to spend the $500 to get the elektrex upgrade.

didnt know about the elektrex upgrade.. but ill still probably make my own.. the parts needed would really be a used flywheel(lighter than stock, but not as light as the elektrex kit) and a stator/regulator for a VFR.
Parts that i need to make are a conical adapter for the flywheel, and a bracket to hold the stator in the stock cover.. shouldnt be that difficult.
But its still going to cost, because of the regulator, flywheel and stator.

Member Anders developed a 32 amp upgrade for the CB750; he was contemplating developing a similar system for the CB550, but it hasn't materialized yet (lots of interest though).  There is a race system, I think that's the Electrex, that's very pricey but has limited application.

If you develop something reliable and replicable, I am sure people will want you to make them.  This could defray some of your build costs.

yeah i was one of the interested buyers for a cb550 setup.
If i make this, it will be only the adapter for the flywheel, and the holder for the stator, the remaining parts would need to be sourced locally as importing them to norway and then exporting them again is too expensive..  putting a few cnc parts in a small package and sending out would not be a big problem..
If i dont make much money, i might be able to help others :D

Making a one off system is no problem, but i need to design it so i can easily replicate it :)

Congratulations on winning Bike of the Month, Harald.

I noticed some frame gussets on the rear triangle subframe area.  Did you also reinforce the frame at the front?

Almost 4 years. I put my name on that list on 1/23/14. That's the way the cookie crumbles sometimes though! I also didn't know about the Electrex kit.

I have the electrex kit Bambu. Very nicely made and saves roughly 6lbs of weight. I’ll let you guys know how it performs. Not using it for efi though.

Modern VFR flywheel and stator set.

Any more pictures?  Can you say in words what you did?  I bought those two same pieces I just have yet to see how they fit.  The taper on the  VFR flywheel and the 550 crank is supposed to be the same so I'm hoping I will either open the hole on the flywheel to bring it closer to the engine or at most machine an adapter to space it out further.  I'm hoping it is the former :)
