Crazy shipment rates :s
« on: March 23, 2017, 01:39:39 AM »
Hello everyone,

First of all, I’m from Spain so here is really difficult  to find pieces from our bikes, in my case, I have a Rickman frame with Honda SOHC engine(still more difficult…)

I’m looking for some pieces such as the front fender, fairing + screen and left side cover.

One forum’s member sends internationally a pair of cover for just 14$ (+the item) and then, I found the fender in Airtech and they want for the shipment 78$ (+ item)

How can be possible this crazy difference?

If I buy the fairing too, the shipment increases until 381$ ….

How can I buy the pieces without die to trying? LOL
Does someone know any website to buy the pieces?

Regards from Spain!!

This is the bike:

And the pieces:

Nice! Well you're lucky to have a Rickman mate, so don't feel too sorry for yourself! I've got a NOS Rickman seat and fairing in my garage, but that's all I've been able to find so far! Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

A friend of mine was to order two plastic lenses for his blinkers. I believe it was Kirk where he found them for $ 12,- a set. Under conditions and shipping he read that it would start at $ 67,-. He mailed to inform if it was correct that an order that costed only $ 12,- and weighed no more than 0.12 lbs, would cost him $ 67,- to have it sent to him and if there wasn't a mistake maybe? In the reply he got, it said that the shipping costs were clearly stated on the site and that it would indeed cost him $ 67,-. He just replied: so far for buying American.

Hi Delta,
Same story for Aussies buying from CMSNL. Even the tiniest part attracts a minimum shipping fee of 30.5 Euros. That's about $45 AUD. Any wonder Yamiya does so well. They don't shaft you (as much) on shipping.

I tried to order a set of piston rings from USA which was not possible since they asked over $70US for shipping only!!!!!! :(  50 grams I guess, max 100 with good package. $25US for the rings.  (I had recently ordered 4 sets of rings from Canada that costed $8-10US in shipping.)

I mailed them screen dumps I had done on USPS homepage where I could find shipping for $14US. But they could not do that. I finally have to agree on $36US from another seller that also wanted over $70US for shipping of a set of rings. I had sent same screen dumps to them. I have ordered a lot of small parts that had costed $8-25US in shipping that are much heavier and bigger than a set of rings.

Many sellers do not WANT to ship in the cheaper way. I guess they have an agreement with a shipping company and an account that cannot ship cheaper.
NOT OK!!! :(

EDIT: One solution might be a parcel forwarding service. I should have checked that before.
I have used it lately from UK where they did not have shipping to Sweden, only within UK. https://www.forward2me.com/
I got a UK address where the order went to (free shipping by seller) The Parcel forwarding company sent the package to me after contact by mail and my action when I logged in.

I saw that there are different companies. The one I choosed has no additional start fees and have lower chipping prices than the other I found.

Jut to search and verify the shipping cost.
Start with this, might be a good option here. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/nancy-laws/5-reliable-parcel-forward_b_7134628.html

DHL, FEDEX and UPS are not cheap from US to Europe, around $300US for a crank or cyl w pistons. USPS take 100

I have never bought from webikejapan but I have bought from samurider.  He ships very fast and has new OEM Honda parts. The yen is low so it's cheaper to buy from Japan even with the shipping. I get emails from webike about every 3 days

USPS shipping rates have essentially doubled in the last year and they're talking about another increase. It has made doing international business very difficult. I know that I have to want something from Europe pretty bad to pay the current shipping prices.

I have a couple friends I forward parts via USPS along to Europe from companies who don't want to ship internationally. I do it as a favor: no extra charges. It's still expensive even when tightly packaged and shipped the most cost-effective way! It is essential that international shipments travel at least as USPS Priority or they take forever to arrive...

Thanks Frank, this is a 4 piston PM caliper, so I doubt it, but I think I've got a GL1200 caliper in my garage, so I'll check. Cheers, Terry. ;D

I offered a set of saddlebags to a member here, both of us in the US. Illinois to so Cal. Shipping was double the asking price of $40. I did buy an order from Cruizin image in Japan. I listed the parts, asked for a quote and he shipped in one box. The shipping total was less then any one of the parts alone. $61.90 plus $16.50 shipping that's not so bad.

USPS has different type of shipments. Really low, medium, expensive, horriible price. If you can wait 2 weeks, it should cost not much.
To Sweden: First class international cost $34.50US for 1 kg. I selected  shape, package
https://postcalc.usps.com/

Or a box of 9kg for $87US
Priority Mail International® Large Flat Rate Box
USPS-Produced Box: 23-11/16" x 11-3/4" x 3" or 12" x 12" x 5-1/2"
Maximum weight 20 pounds

You need to click around to find lowest price. Not the expensive Express with a few days international shipping. The problem is that some seller are not willing to use the cheapest option. I have got a ca, from ebay, $34US 10-14 days shipping, Dynoman cam within 5 days but more than double shipping.

Many eBay sellers know how to do.  I'm sure that the wrong shipping options have a negative effect on the business when tge total will be too much. VAT and customs will be added to the high shipping cost too. If I pay $100 in shipping, VAT and customs will be 28 for shipping only, plus the part and customs fee of $15-30US depending on size

Looks like privatization of some businesses is no guarantee and this whole thing reminds of British rail services where ticketprices after the 80s privatization mania went skyhigh and ever since remained so.
