Couple projects...cafe seat & tank...
« on: April 18, 2006, 05:44:06 PM »
...been working on these on the side the last couple months.  Plan to [try] and add knee cutouts on the tank, and take the seat to an upholster and have it recovered for a cafe look...

agree - i have that same tank - i have three...well, four...anyway i bought that one, it's a 78 right? and ended up not using it... after seeing it on my K1 i changed my mind and went back to an older version...

if you want another one to cut up i'll sell you mine - it's practically identical to that one and is in REALLY nice shape - comes with key.

...pretty sure its a 78 (maybe a 77)...I got it in a pile of parts I got the last bike a bought..the 77/78k tanks aren't the most desirable (thats y I'm chopping this one up) ...a little on the bulking side I guess...

Don't worry about Eldar, he will be more than happy when he gets his
new K8 tank this week (from me ;D).
I heard a rumor he sleeps with them when he first buys them...............?

I have JUST made a quick Cafe out of a 78 that was a bit of a snotter.
I then changed the tanks look as it was way to bulbous.
It came out pretty good.

I have already got this bike running and pretty much finished it last night, the new owner will upholster it himself.

he should have fun on that 78.
Hope ya dig it?

Hey Lumbee - what are you plans for the tank knee inserts? Are you going to get some sheet metal and form it, then weld it in?

What thickness of metal? What are you going to use to weld it? MIG?

Carpy, your reputation surpasses you and that one is just another example of why. Good
looking bike there, the new owner should be proud indeed.    Later on, Bill

...very nice work Carpy...thats exactly the look I'm shooting for!  How did you fab the knee inserts?  Sheet metal by hand...english wheel?

pmpski, yes, I have a MIG, so thats what I plan on doing the welding with.  As far as fabbing the knee inserts, lets see what Carpy says.  I was planning on getting sheet metal and and couple of hammers/dollys, and going to town on the sheet metal.  12 gauge maybe???

i like a man with no idea but also vision!  lumbee... you inspire us all to go in our garages and cut our bikes apart to lie in heaps of rubble until we see fit.

...hey Hef, sometimes you only know enough to get through the first stage of a project.  Cutting up the tank was the first stage...it will sit there until I have some notion of how to even begin to fab knee inserts...   ;D

Let me tell you I'm sure interested in how this is going to turn out myself. Kinda like life. We take life one day at a time and you take you projects one step at a time. I'm sure it's going to be something to see. Good lick with what ever you do with it. Later on, Bill

            Hey Mark,

Looking good there. That tank is definitely looking GOOD!!! I think that a gas cap, like
that one, would set it off. You have got a talent Mark. Keep up the good work. :) ;)
