Electrical short solved
« on: March 26, 2017, 11:08:58 AM »
First a little background. I've had this new to me 78 750F since last fall and I've had it on the road for a month or so getting a few rides in during this cold wet spring we are having.
Bike has run very well with the exception of blowing the main 15 amp fuse occasionally. One of the more recent items done was replacing the spark plug caps. Two tested OK, but high ohms when metered, and two showed no continuity.
Replaced them and imidiately started blowing fuses again. Off with the tank again and after moving as many wires as I could see I managed to get the fuse to blow by moving the wires near the steering head.
Upon opening up the main wire bundle near the coils I found these factory connections and one of the brass connectors had worn through and was rubbing against the inside of the frame clamp. Some shrink tube and taped back up and so far so good.
