'81 CB650C How many teeth...
« on: June 02, 2005, 09:24:15 AM »
... do the OEM front/rear sprockets have?  I've searched Dennis Kirk but they list rear sprockets with anywhere from 40 to 48 teeth and don't say which are OEM spec.

530 is the usual chain replacement size, isn't it?  The manual, which I don't have with me, listed a chain size/notation that I was not familiar with, but it wasn't 530.

TIA.

Tim

P.S. Thanks to those of who who replied to my 'where to get parts' post.  It is appreciated.

to add to the previous post.

my 81 CB 650 c came with a 16 tooth front and 39 tooth rear

i replaced the chain when i bought the bike
and yes its a 530/104

>>>> but <<<<

i just replaced the front sproket with a 17 tooth sproket, and MAN what a difference it has made.

i used to turn 6500 rpm's doing 65 mph
now im doing 5300 rpm's doing 65 mph

I feel the lower rpm on the highway is less stress on the engine.
before i was worried if i was pushing her too hard.
now i dont think about it at all. ;)

I wondered in the past if that will work, seems a bit cramped down there?

I like to lower the r's too if it will still pull ok.  Here by the mnts its not had to do but you can always drop a gear.  I did one 650 and was great going east to the lower elavations but in the mts was always shiftin.  There used to be a 37 tooth listed for the rear that was for a yammi.
