CB500 Daily Rider.
« on: March 30, 2017, 07:32:41 AM »
Been a long time since I had an active thread here.

Anyone else find EVERY excuse NOT to work on existing projects, and instead mess with new stuff?

I probably should be working on my CB/CR, but at this point it is stuck in the back of the garage.
It is also way to nice for me.

I should be putting the motor back in the chopper!  BUT I live in a condo.....so I do not want to be kicked out!

Without question I should get back to my Seeley..... But....well....I got nothing here....

The Seeley first got bumped so that I could wrap up a Norton Commando (I went over to the dark side fairly hard....bought three Nortons in a few months)
The 850 was my daily rider and was a bunch of fun.
I had planed to sell it on and get back to working on the Hondas....but I just cant give the bike away!
Everyone calls it junk!

My girl was not a fan of the Norton.  She MUCH preferred my old CB450.

SO I found a CL450 to replace the Norton with!
Spent some time getting it ready for the up coming season.
Should be fun.

But enough about all the stuff I SHOULD be messing with.
Lets mess with a nice clean CB500 project!

Pulled the carbs to make sure they were clean.
While they were clean, the O-Rings were hard and need to be replaced.

Bought a new battery and installed it.
Bike has a nice fat spark!
Things are shaping up well.

My favorite part of the bike is how freaking clean the pipes are!

Plan is to have another nice clean daily rider.
I am not one for bike shows.

Been a while since I have had a SOHC to ride regally.
Miss the turbine line ride.

Normally I am the guy that has more "stuff" then bikes, but lately I have been able to build a few bikes out of all the mess!

First order of business is to take off those ugly and heavy stock pipes!
I figure I will cut the muffler ends off, clamp some emgo bullets on it and either wrap or paint them flat black.
The added performance will be welcome and also the louder pipes will make the bike safer....

NOT

I took them off to give the pipes a good cleaning.
Also they were not fully installed, they were more "mocked up"
Note the tape...

NOS parts everywhere!

It is the tiny little details that people forget about.  These things are cheap, and simple to do, but make a world of difference.
Changed out the rubbers for the side covers.  The covers now go on and off MUCH better.
Issue is that these little jobs can nickel and dime you though.

Found out that the pipes were actually NEW!
How cool is that?

Unsure, but I think it is an original Dunstall fairing.

Anyone need some CB500/550 Carbs?

Cleaned up the best set I had and installed them on the bike.

Plan to take them back off to replace the manifold rubbers and polish the bowls at some point.
I put fresh gas in the tank and literally on the first bump of the starter the bike fired to life!

I couldnt NOT paint a set of side covers flat black...lol
Do not have a really nice set, so will be on the hunt for some.

I'm kicking the idea around.
Might just have one of the sets I have painted.

Unsure.

So when am I mailing that H2 to you?

Still on the fence about the direction to take here.

Have these.
I assume they will need a rebuild.

The last owner completed a dual disc conversion to a set of forks that came with the bike.
Thinking it might be a worth while upgrade.

Emgo CB400F bars, fork gators and a pair of stainless caliper pistons showed up yesterday.
Looking more and more like a mild custom is going to happen.
