I mounted the K tank on the F frame . . looks like it belongs there.

I sat the K seat frame and foam on the bike. I needed the tank mounted to see where the seat base needs to be set. I will be keeping the latch and hinge from the F seat to make this K seat operational.

So now we have an operational seat. I installed/welded some studs to the seat base to accept the F hinge.

Then I had to modify the frame attachment point. I was able to use one original mounting stud. I cut the stud mount and moved a section more forward. Then welded it in place.

Now I have a K seat that hinges like the F seat. I still have to add the latch.

This is how it is sitting now, attached by the hinge on the left. Still no latch.

First, I mounted the latch to the right side of the seat. I was able to use one of the threaded holes that was for the hinge on this seat. I then removed one of the threaded insert and moved it, to mount my latch. Then I welded the old hole shut.

Now with the seat latching as a F model does, my thoughts were true that the left side of the seat was a bit high. I then cut the hinge down. After making all mods to the hinge and remounting the seat, i think I am good now.

Now on to painting and upholstering the seat.

I've posted a bit about Master Series silver on other threads. Well here it is in action on my modified seat base. It then will be topcoated with a hammered paint which should give it all the protection it needs under the new foam.

I covered the seat and mounted it on the bike. I still need to add the strap.

Took the front end apart today.

The lower legs are black no longer  :)

The plan is painted headlight, fork ears and different turn signals. Not sure what finish I want on the lower legs??

Also, I need the older style exhaust mounts, the spigots and flanges for them. Anyone have a set?

I started on the fork ears. One had a dent that I hammered and dollied. Then both ears, I cut the protrusion that was there for the turn signals to mount . It's about 1 1/2" long. I cut it off and welded the hole.

Then a skim coat of filler to smooth it.Also, a skim where the dolly work was.

Next, sand the filler, remove the chrome and paint.

I sand it off. Once I get to the nickel, I'm good. And it doesn't take much to hit the nickel, chrome is so thin. It was sanded off where the metal work was done.

I want to thank Chewbacca for coming through with the complete spigot assembly. They are installed. Also, easy way to clean rusty and grimy parts is phosphoric acid. Just drop parts in for a few hours to an overnight if needed.

I finally have the exhaust situation under control . . . . I believe. I had to cut the kick stand off and move it slightly. I finally got around to welding it back on today. I believe it is all going to work. I don't have the bracket made for the muffler support. It's just hanging with a zip tie right now. But I think once the bracket is done , everything is going to work. I though access to weld the stand on good would be a problem, but I had good access with the bike supported on the center stand. Once the kickstand was back on the frame, I realized the ngle in which the stand comes down to meet the ground was a little too far from vertical. You don't want vertical, but mine was a bit too much. It is that way because it was mounted on eh frame where the tube turns up. I moved it to where it isn't at the turn up point. Therefore the kickstand went a bit too far in it's movement when you brought it down to the ground. I welded a bit to shorten distance and it looks good to me. I'm not sure exactly how one looks . .but I think this is close enough. I now can get he exhaust completely mounted and move onto th next phase . . finishing the side covers. I also am not sure whether I will be able to keep the center stand on. I would like to for working on the bike. We'll see about that tomorrow.

Exhaust is all done. First pic is the rear view while on center stand. The muffler brackets are made and installed.

Next are left and right pics with the bike on it's kickstand. And, I will be able to keep the center stand. I will have to make what I consider a relatively easy mod to the center stand to make it work just fine. You can see in the left shot that there is an issue with the outermost part of the center stand, where you place your foot. Overall, a PITA, but very happy with the end result as this is exactly the look for which I was aiming.

Thank you Bill. I'm working on the side covers now and they will be "interesting" as well. I've had some people in my shop recently and they are drawn to the bike  :)

As I'm waiting to paint the modified side covers, I finally added the tank trim and petcock. Adding the trim really gives it that vintage look I want.
