I do like to dabble, Sir.   :)  I build maybe 12-18 a year right now.  But paint hundreds a year.  Here are a few shots of what I am doing for a customer right now.  :)

Today, I got a few hours in on the tank.  I grafted the original F tank mount that slides in the rubber strap and made front mounts out of all thread.  I drilled the frame no far from from stock position.  Then welded up the cups cut out of old tank.  I am also making filler pieces that will be used as well to really clean up the area.

The tank is pretty much tacked together and ready for final weld.  Started messing with rear tail section cut from junk Victory fender.

The tank looks good.  Are you leaving the end cut square (to be filled by the seat), or are you extending the downward curve toward the subframe?

I am going to leave it square and make the transition in the pan and seat.  The one thing I learned fast with my other bike was, it is nice to be able to get tank off with least amount of work possible.

Looking good. 8)   The tail section radius may interfere with the tire's radius - visually - if it is not in the right place.  I would like to see it with the rear wheel on.
I just want to make sure you're building your bike to suit me:o

THat is just factory e coat, I will use roloc disc to clean it up before welding. The Mig works so much better when any surface is scuff IMO. I have tried that weld through stuff.  It worked, but threw off a bunch of odor.

I got an hour in this eve working tail.  I hope to hide a small battery and electronics in there somewhere.  Using stock F model oil bag.

I used an Anti-Gravity Lithium Ion battery on my build.  It's great.  I'm pretty sure they can be installed on their sides.  There are dimensions on their website.  I made a little cardboard mockup to test fit the battery box I made.  When I got the actual battery it fit perfectly.

Thanks Bud.  I am worried a bit about the Li Ion batteries from some of the stories I have heard.  They sure are small and could be easily tucked away in the tail.  Special chargers?

I know Antigravity sells chargers.  My battery was low from all the testing I did during the wiring.   There wasn't enough juice when I tried to start the bike for the first time.  I hooked up a small Drag Specialties charger that I won as a door prize a few years back.  After about an hour on the charger I was able to start the bike.  I haven't had to charge the battery since.  Good sign my charging system is working and the battery isn't screwed up from the charger I used.

Lithium based batteries are great if you need to shave maximum weight (racing) or due to space limitations.  They have tons of cold cranking amps, but you need to make sure they never fall below a certain specified threshold voltage -- if they do, they will NEVER recover their charge.  Also, you should use the special proprietary charger for them.

I have a hobby charger for my RC racing that has a LI setting.  It has a Deans connector that I could run externally and not have to remove the tail section to charge.  Will investigate further.

You decided to nix the "fender" tail section for a fabbed one?   I liked the fender one.  There may not be as much room to house stuff but with the batt that Budman pictured I'm sure you'd be fine.  IMHO

Nothing is off the table at this point.   :)  I have a surplus of potential tail sections.  I still may carve one out of foam then glass.

I've run probably 8 lithium ion batteries and only had one go dead on me.  But it was my own fault for using the wrong charger.  When charged correctly, they are great.

Hey Bud.  What were final dimensions of your battery mockup.  Also, did you give room for rubber padding of any kind in your box?
