Motorcycle Lift Table
« on: April 06, 2017, 12:59:47 PM »
Hello Friends,

I'm finally admitting that my knees hurt and I'm tired of dealing with the different styles of small motorcycle Jacks.  It's time for a Lift Table.  I'm wanting to do a scissor lift type that has the multiple locking positions and air over hydraulic.

I'm looking at the different offering from Redline Tables.  Max price range around $900.

Here's one I'm looking at as I can do a local pickup in central Indiana (if I decide to lug it to my house in my truck).

http://www.redlinestands.com/catalog/lifts-c-290/motorcycle-atv-lifts-c-290_110/lifting-tables-c-290_110_111/titan-1000d-lb-motorcycle-atv-lift-table-p-245

Anyone have other recommendations for lifts?

Cheers, Joe

Actually that particular table (Titan 1000D) is looking better and better.  I just found a local guy who is set up as a distributor.  I can go right to the Titan warehouse with him and pick it up for < 700$ (unless the story changes between now and next week) :)

Any lift is better then no lift. Find a coupon from Harbor Freight, and you can get the $600 table for $300.

Would love to shell out on a Handy Lift...but it's looking about almost twice the price of the local pickup on the titan.

Agree. When working on the bike, it takes 2 minutes or less to put it where you want. 30 seconds usually. Then it stays in that spot for hours, if not days. I have this lift, and don't miss the air version. I got mine off Craigslist brand new for $100. Best $100 ever spent.

We had the Handy lift when I worked in a shop.  It is great for everyday commercial use. However, for the occasional user the foot pump HF one is more than adequate.  50 pumps and it is fully up. I have two, spent less than 300 each. My .02...Larry

I might get one of those HF lifts for my home shop when they go on special again.  The Handy would be nice, but then I'd have to get a compressor too, and I surely cannot justify it.

Agreed. I have two HF lifts in my shop and both work fine but you can tell you get what you pay for. A friend of mine has this:

http://proseriesequipment.com/products/auto-lifts/motorcycle-lifts/index.php (which can be found elsewhere for $699 or cheaper)

and it works very nice. I'd also highly recommend purchasing one of these service jacks to go with it:

http://proseriesequipment.com/products/auto-lifts/motorcycle-lifts/acc-pse-tcml-sj.php

it's a nice addition piece that saves you hassling around.

Built mine for around 100.00.  2 sections held together with a bolt.  Also used a Harbor Freight wheel chock.  I know it's not a lift and I have to use a ramp, but when I am done it stores easily.  In fact it outside on the patio covered with a tarp, stacked one section on another.

I looked at the Handy Lift at my local Honda shop and the high quality and construction of this lift. I wanted 100% piece of mind if I wanted to leave the Goldwing up there for a period of time. Plus, I like that if I need to get up on the lift for some reason it is very stable.

It really seems like the gold standard.  If I was lifting a GL, I'd prefer something as robust.

Jeeze, where do you guys store all this crap?

I would very much like to get a lift for the bike - but I only live in a modest home with a one-car garage.  It's tough enough to keep and maintain 5 motorcycles, even tougher if the garage was utterly packed with enough tooling to stock a full service garage.  :o

I'm right there with you...I have a small house and a detached 1.5 Car Garage which I'm getting ready to insulate as soon as the power is run. But the lift really won't take up much room as it will simply sit in a place where a bike previously sat.  It will probably always have a bike on it, so the space was already taken up.

Buy a shed for the back yard, put everything in it you don't want in the garage. Make the garage a workshop, not a storage room.

I wish the lift had 4 casters instead of two. That would make pushing it up against the wall a lot easier.

There are some cool lifts available that recess into the floor.  They can be used for cars as well as bikes...or could be.
The front wheel holding device would have to be a bolt on affair. You can put insert nuts in the table and  use bolts with the large knobs like the woodworking crowd frequently use for their various powered tools and fences and tables. You could even use Cam-locking designs for things that would not require as much security against failure.

Then there are various wooden bike work tables or rolling bench designs.
Putting a few concrete anchors for a threaded stop block to prevent a rolling table or cart from moving would be critical.

My only suggestion is to get as wide a lift as you can. A motorcycle/atv style. It gives you a wider work table and a place for footing when you roll the bike on it. Plenty of room for tools also. When not in use for a bike it serves as a great extra work table.

I had the HF lift and it worked well however when doing the CBX it was very tricky to do it by yourself as the lift sits high off the floor. I am not a strong guy and needed help loading the bike. Worked well for smaller bikes however.

One thing about a nice lift is you usually get your money back if selling. I paid $700 for this many years ago with chock and extra jack. Never regretted the purchase. I believe this is a Pro-Lift.

Extra room for parts and tools.

not keen on the wide lift , i can see it would be good to put tools and stuff on but it would make it difficult to get to parts of the bike .
those handy lifts look very nice though , a bike lift is one of those things that cant be to good only to crap and it could be expensive finding that out .
recessing it into the ground is a good idea as well , might do that .

Because of the space I have available, I'm likely not going to get the lift side extensions.  I cal always add them later if needed.  I have plenty of roll around tables for parts and tools.

I've pretty much decided on a Titan Lift as they are local and I found a guy registered as a distributor with them for his side business.  Great price and he and I will go direct to Titan to pick the lift up in my truck.

Simon, Most of the wide lifts have easy on, easy off side extensions so you get the best of both worlds.

...but back to the thread now, Yo are going to love that lift. I have two Handy and one Harbor Freight, and I do like the HF just fine, it is a screamin' deal. I prefer the Handy, but unless you can find something similar like you did for a smokin' price (as you did), IMO you cannot beat the HF lift for sheer value.

Enjoy! There's no going back now!

not keen on the wide lift.....

Simon, Most of the wide lifts have easy on, easy off side extensions so you get the best of both worlds.

ah ..... as you say the best of both worlds then .  i still prefer  the quality of the handy one even though it is a lot more expensive
