Ever see an airbox that made a stripped down Bike look better ?
I am not even going to search for a Kz400- SL 350 carb conversion airbox.
You dont seem to like choppers, but choppers and custom bikes are all about removing stuff, and making them lighter.
And you want your bike to look like a Trackmaster Triumph, toss the CV carbs and use slide carbs.

I'm not trying to bait you with that comment. You're right, I generally don't like choppers - perhaps that's because I'm an engineer and have seen FAR too many hack jobs or amateurs who think they can do better than the manufacturers.
That said - sure, I get it - racers strip out their bikes because they need every edge they can get and pods will give them that edge where they need it most - high throttle and who cares about fuel economy. They aren't riding those bikes to work - they're riding to win.
But forums like this are littered with people who can't even tune the stock carbs (like me

) without loss of sanity. Toss in a set of pods and you can forget about ever getting that bike running unless you really know what you're doing. This is even worse with CV carbs. PD carbs seem to be pretty tolerant.
Personally I think you could make a chopper look good with a stock airbox - or an airbox with a cut down volume. Block off the triangle section of the frame where they sit with a race panel or something that matches the paint. That would give you a "half-chopper"? "half-brat"? that would be more accessible to an owner who didn't need to know bike carburetor voodoo to ride it. At most you'd gain about 2 lbs over a full café or chopper configuration. Drink 2 less cans of beer and the weight is negligible.
