Certainly not unreasonable for my area.  Your area might be another story  :-\
If you really need to sell it, lower the price.
Might have to sit on it for a while to get what you want.

To be honest it's stupid hipster kids that want a cool old bike but also know nothing about them!  Which  is fine I used to be one haha but I didn't try and act like I knew seems they want a brand new motorcycle that starts every time with zero issues ever. When I inform them it's 40 year old bike that is going to need some love over time there like oh no thanks! "Thought you said it was restored.

A dealership would price it around 4k i bet.
You could probably get a better sale with an ebay auction.  It opens up the market area a lot.  More complex in the end but its an idea.

Doesn't sound like a rebuilt engine from your description, just hone and rings. No mention of valve guides replaced (or at least measured) and seats cut, or at least lapped. If it was tore down to the crank why were nothing done with the transmission, crank, rods? If anything was done you should mention it. Those look like cheapo China shocks, no better than 40+ year old Honda and make me suspect of the rest of the bike and work (cutting corners, penny wise pound foolish). What's with the side covers bolted on? I'm not that familiar with F or SS models but I thought they all were retained by grommets.

While it looks like a nice presentable rider from the picture, several things jump out at me as as this being a quick and dirty with corners cut. Whether that's the case or not I don't know but I wouldn't pay more than $2500 for it without knowing and seeing more. Also consider it's a late bike, 77-78 are not as desirable as early bikes. That being the case, having the wrong engine may or may not affect the value in either direction... I'm not that familiar with 77-78 bikes.

I understand what your saying. Yes cheap parts for sure. Not sure where you live or what your buying but I've bought 3 CBS and two where barn finds for $500 and the other was missing a lot and didn't start and it cost 1400. Again not sure where you live but I can't think of buying any bike with even cheap parts that runs with new tires for anything less then 2500-3000. But again maybe I've always seem over priced bikes. At this point maybe I'll pull it apart and sell for parts haha I know people buy any crap parts on eBay. Bet I could sell the motor it self for 800.
And yes the inside was inspected of course and I miss spoke when it says "torn to the crank" however the transmission works great. If you now where to buy a bike like this for under 2500 let me know seems cheaper then me building one next time.

Stick to your price if you put that much into it. We are coming up on prime selling season.
I would say here is a 3k pile of parts, you get the donor bike with it for 500.
If thats too much for the buyer, let them walk.. Did you put Firm in the ad ?
I hate people that read an ad for say 5k, then they start calculating in their warped head ..hmm if I got it for 3800... Etc etc.
Now if someone calls and says what will you take, I just tell them..We can end this right here and now..

Red bikes are worth more. :)

I would put 1000 good miles on it and say "1000 good miles since engine work". There is another thread up now, the guy bought a bike, found that there was a missing tappet locknut, dropped the oil pan looking for the nut and found a broken gear dog.

Bike looks nice & clean but, here in Mississippi maybe $2500 tops. Wrong motor, paint looks nice but wrong color no stripes or emblems.  That just kills the resale of the old 750,s.  The F models even new never sold very well.  The 78 models was the last year of sohc and the 78 models bring the less money.    I think you could part it out on eBay and make $3500 or more. I met up with a guy selling a '73 CB750 in the Dallas area to check it out and he ended up selling his for $5k; it was all factory original, pristine, and apparently had Fox upgrades from the factory(something I never knew about). Boner and drooling may of occurred.

I'm kinda thinking like 754. Stick to your guns. You got what they want but everyone wants to win. I'll give you my honest $.02 and share how I'd do it. Don't hate me.

You might be advertising wrong. If you're on Craigslist you should definitely be marking up higher than your bottom dollar. The ol, "craigslist's game". I read you should go 10-15% higher than your ideal target to give room to negotiate down a bit. Check eBay completed listings to make sure you know what prices have been averaging lately.

Everyone wants to play "Pawn Stars" and you just have to play along. If people contact me asking price I'd tell them "I don't talk prices over the phone/emails, that's an in-person conversation after you check out the bike and see what you're getting." Then you can cut the crap of the low ballers and those who aren't serious.

The ad comes off a little too "SALE!!" to me. I'd probably lose the sales stickers at the opening (Title!, $3k of parts!) and the pitchy stuff ("looking for a sweet vintage bike?") and keep it simple and factual. I'd also say market to the folks that don't know or need to know the fancy terminology and other stuff like models, you'll just confuse them!

Any Honda head will contact you and ask the important questions. Keep it simple for those that don't know what "honed" means. Aim for the kid with daddy's money that wants a ready to go bike. (Yes I'm going to hell)

I'd also lose the itemized pricing of parts; it makes it feel like you're trying to get your money back. Then I ask myself, well if it has all these badass parts why's he getting rid of it? Is it a botched restore? What's being hidden? If I tally what you listed I come up with $2,358 and not $3,000; some bozo out there will bust your balls for this.

My take, [reasoning/text to you/what the reader will think in brackets]

"Up for sale is a titled 1978 Honda CB750 Four Super Sport street motorcycle [tags for search hits]. Bike has original keys and has been completely restored and had an overhauled K(performance version) engine installed and is ready to ride [overhauled, performance AND ready to ride!?]. Bike runs, drives, shifts through all gears, stops, holds idle and has no issues [knock out stupid questions to your email]. This thing has $3,000 worth of parts and upgrades but keeps it's 70's style with 21st century performance. [ok, just a little pitch :P]

Here's the short and sweet.

Clutch lifter plate
Stainless steel engine bolts

Frame
Powder coated
New IRC Tires
Cycle-x 4-1 exhaust

Realistically the only true upgrades are the electronics. The rest is just frreshening up stuff. I'd like to think it should bring more than the average CB750 but probably not as much as you'd like. Main thing is to find the right audience that knows the CB's and appreciates the extra effort you have put into it and realizes they will not have to do it.

Thanks guys good info. And mostly posted the list for you guys it's on my eBay listing but not others. And there's lots of good photos just didn't post here. If I can't sell it for 3k I'll part it. I know someone wants a tilted fresh powdered frame for a "cafe" build haha. Thanks for the advice guys

I check craigslist regularly and have seen your bike numerous times when I was searching for my F model, take some more wide shots of the bike rather than so much close up. I've found it beneficial to not list so much of the work you've put in to a bike, let dialogue happen with your prospective customer when it comes to that, it will get them more interested in it rather than just seeing everything on the post and never contacting you since they have all the info they need.

It's a little old school, but I sold my CL200 by having it at the end of my driveway. I had it on Craigslist and got a nice handful of hits, but when I put it outside with a for sale sign on it I got about 5 calls a day. I don't really live on a busy street either. Eventually sold it to a girl who is obsessed with giraffes.

If you know someone on a main street it would be even better, just chain it up.
