Some more Craigslist disasters? Post them here.

Look at this work of art.

Assuming those welds(?) will even hold, how long before that cross piece acts like a friction brake?

I like that bike.  I'm not 4500 bucks liking that bike, but still a good looking bike.

Here's the thing - why do people always ditch the airbox on their brats/scramblers/café racers/abominations?  They can't possibly think that hollow piece of plastic is weighing the bike down.

Ever see an airbox that made a stripped down Bike look better ?
I am not even going to search for a Kz400- SL 350 carb conversion airbox.
You dont seem to like choppers, but choppers and custom bikes are all about removing stuff, and making them lighter.
And you want your bike to look like a Trackmaster Triumph, toss the CV carbs and use slide carbs.
Rather than explaining this more, I started a new thread...enjoy..

Is a shredder a skateboarder or is he referring to Shredder from Ninja Turtles?  My son grew up with Ninja Turtles...

that first is a horror... Is there even 100 of parts on that 1st one...
So, someone offer the man $101...it is worth more than a hundred he claims.

Omg, some of the descriptions on Craigslist are amazing. I had another one the other day that said "this thing is as sweet as your girls pussy". I kid you not. lol I love browsing on there just to see this stuff.

I do have an unmolested frame for that first bike that I need to get rid of. I should contact the dude and see if he wants it.

I've been that poster.
Tried real hard to sell a chinese lawsuit gibson 335 guitar.  The neck had warp twisted just like a real gibson!
But I had some pretty good selling points like
Quote
Buy this guitar and you can use it for an art project!  Like Blast it out of a cannon - ridding the world of yet another chinese knockoff!
Give it to your kid so the other kids at school wont make fun of him for having a squier!  (Just dont tell them its a fake)
Use it in a music video where you intend to smash it up!  Set it on fire and record it burn with a high speed camera!
Or i dunno, you could just play it like a guitar.  The pickups suck tho.

I'm not trying to bait you with that comment.  You're right, I generally don't like choppers - perhaps that's because I'm an engineer and have seen FAR too many hack jobs or amateurs who think they can do better than the manufacturers.
That said - sure, I get it - racers strip out their bikes because they need every edge they can get and pods will give them that edge where they need it most - high throttle and who cares about fuel economy.  They aren't riding those bikes to work - they're riding to win.
But forums like this are littered with people who can't even tune the stock carbs (like me ::)) without loss of sanity.  Toss in a set of pods and you can forget about ever getting that bike running unless you really know what you're doing.  This is even worse with CV carbs.  PD carbs seem to be pretty tolerant.

Personally I think you could make a chopper look good with a stock airbox - or an airbox with a cut down volume.  Block off the triangle section of the frame where they sit with a race panel or something that matches the paint.  That would give you a "half-chopper"?  "half-brat"?  that would be more accessible to an owner who didn't need to know bike carburetor voodoo to ride it.  At most you'd gain about 2 lbs over a full café or chopper configuration.  Drink 2 less cans of beer and the weight is negligible.

Its not just weight..custom bikes are a very visual exercise.... It has to appeal to your eye..
Often that means it may not appeal to others..
And often its an ongoing thing...sometimes you just sit and look and think..what if I changed this a bit or that ? Sometimes an ongoing evolving thing.
Thats what makes stock boring...it gets finished and you are done.
Luckily we live in a country where we can do almost anything to our bikes..for now.. I love it ..

To me,when I look at the open area underneath the front of the seat where the battery & airbox used to be it just looks empty.. like something is missing.  :D
I think it's the best spot to put anything that is heavy because it's the 'center of gravity' place just behind the engine where the operator's weight is centralized.. How about making a custom/under-seat 'luggage carry' box inside that 'open window' area that was well designed to look sweet ?  I think someone could start a company that makes custom designed 'under-seat fuel tanks' in many different colors and styles, even clear  :)  imo  ;)

It's funny you say that.  On my CB750 Limited that's exactly what Honda did.  In that triangle tucked in with the battery and airbox is a compartment for storing items - the 'trunk' on that bike if you will.

On my Nighthawk - there's an underseat storage box and a small toolbox carrying case above the voltage regulator.

I think it's possible to carry some heavy stuff inside that space and still not affect the handling at all.

What heavy stuff. Battery and tools , that is what I come up with.

Maybe the open space does not appeal to all but opening up area around the motor usually makes it bigger looking or more of a focal point.
