1978 CB750F Corbin Seat?
« on: December 12, 2006, 05:29:18 PM »
I noticed on ebay someone currently had a 78 SS for sale with a nice looking Corbin seat.  Do they make Corbin seats for this model or is this from another model?  Does anyone know or have one?  Thanks...

I don't remember whose bike it is, but in the gallery somewhere is a 750F with a Corbin Gunfighter Saddle.  I heard that they used to make it, but it's not currently manufactured.  I wonder what they'd charge to dust off the patterns and make a one off??? ???

I've got a Corbin on one of my '78 SS's. It was made way back when using the stock seat pan. Pretty sure you can still have Corbin make a new seat if you send them your old pan. I don't think Corbin actually makes seats, just recovers your existing seat.

Sean...the last time I heard Corbin will not do custom seats. Sargent's in Florida will customize your seat (and do a good job too).

Hey Guys,

I asked the Seller where the seat came from.  He told me it was a Gunfighter made for a Norton Commando, and with very minimal tweaking, it fit.  I should have bought the bike just for that mod!!!!!!  (and it was sort of local!)

I have pics of the bike in my office, I will post them tomorrow.

corbin makes their own fiberglass seat pan. They used to do a gunfighter for the SOHC bikes but stopped doing them in the 80's. They will not do custom seats and despite my begging, pleading, threats, and tantrums will not bring the old SOHC seat molds out of retirement. I spoke to them at the NY motorcycle show (the cycle world international show) and one of the reps owns a 750 K4 and he was just as bummed about it as I was. I don't think the molds for the pans are in good enough shape to be used.

Hey Guys,

Here are the pics I downloaded off the Ebay listing.  If you are the owner of this bike, I mean no offence for posting these, but I am sure all here would love to see what work was done to get this seat to mount.

Looks really sweet.

I also think with all the interest a Corbin seat for these bikes would generate, the company would be stupid not offer this to us.  The demand for these SOHC bikes is getting better every year, and I think we could be a potentially great market for them.  Let's get together and paper them to bring the old molds out of retirement, update them and get them on our bikes!  Below is there "Product Request" link.  I have Corbin seats on my '78 MG Lemans I and my '91 BMW K1, and I can tell you that they are very comfortable, way, way better than stock, and their cutomer service is great if you want to customize the individual fit.

Good luck all, and Happy Holidays!

I really like corbin, really I do and I have a lot of their seats on my bikes, But do we really want to invite them to rape our wallets by begging them to make a $300+ dollar gunfighter seat?

I have a local uplostry guy who can do some amazing things with foam and a stock seat pan. I had an old corbin touring saddle for my 900F and I took it to him with my new corbin cb750F (DOHC) seat and asked him to replicate the shape on the touring saddle. He did it perfectly and for way, way, way less money than corbin would have charged me to do my seat over as a gunfighter. Sure it doesn't have the gel technology they brag about but it was $150 (half the price of corbin) and no shipping.

I'm sure you can find a local guy who will do a great job too for a lot less money. If not Carpy does a good job with seats.

Sargents does a good job too for less money:

This guy had is 1978 GS750 seat done by them for $160, looks great:

BTW why the change of heart toward corbin? Well I have had the DOHC seat for little under a year now and I opted for the leather instead of vynil, which was an added expense at the time. Well after a year of good use the leather in the seat basket area is starting to peel. Keep in mind I have followed corbin's care procedures for this seat and still the leather is flaking. I'm sure I can send it back and have it taken care of...but I was expecting not to have this hassle in the first place. Espically since my brother now owns this bike and all he can do is whine to me about it.

Corbin bite if you have to deal with them. I had to as a dealer and after several mistakes ....which I was always responsible for...I said FY. They had to go to Parts Unlimited for distribution as dealers would not work with them. This is all after Mike Corbin got crushed in a bike accident by a driver trying to kill a biker (for real) and sold the company. Sargent is much..much....much better

That seat looks great, but I have a beef with Corbin too. I ordered a seat for my old Duc ST2 and the back panel of the seat ripped open the very first time someone sat on it. The leather on that back panel was so thin that if it hadn't been for the black dye I think you could have seen through it. I returned it and it took months to get it fixed, and this was with a dealer going to bat for me.

I like the lines and shape of that seat, looks good.  There's one on ebay just like it for a CB400F, it's at $255.00 with 11 bids.
