Question about Honda CB350 twin
« on: April 11, 2017, 02:57:43 pm »
My niece is looking to buy a CB350, how cool is that?!  She sent me a pic, and the original exhaust has considerable blueing near the heads.
I know the bluing is the result of heat, but is that common on the twins? [I dont know the 350's]
Could be wrong jetting or plugs, what else would cause this?

The bike looks all original with 24K miles and in exceptional shape, the bluing has me a little concerned.

Thanks

If they are original pipes, they should not be blued...double wall tubeing just like on our fours.
If it works good, it looks good...

The first thing I would imagine could be they were running it w/ very clogged carbs.(would run way too lean)and it got hot plus extended idling.I hope the present owner would let you do a compression test(or look in the spark plug holes w/ one of those special cameras)to verify if the top-end is still 'in spec'.

Seller states they are original pipes, I question that since they are blued.  Thx

If it ran lean once 12 years ago and was immediately fixed, what color will the pipes be ?
My exoerience on the 350 twinm had to set the idle mixtute screws every two weeks. They vibrate a lot.. Bur a fun bike.. Dont let her ride a four dirst..she will just think all bikes are tingly..

We went and looked at the bike yesterday, the cond was very disappointing.
I was expecting it to be a lot nicer than it was, the seller was just a flipper trying to make a buck [not that there is any thing wrong with that!]

But it had crappy old tires, black elec tape wrapped around wiring, tweaked handle bars and a tank sealed with an unknown product.  It did start up and run good, checked the plug for leanness and it looked normal.

The seller was a bad salesman and I didnt like the bike so I called a buddy of mine that also had a CB350.  I toyed with him a couple months ago about selling it [long story]. He now said he was ready to sell and we could come look at it immediately. We were there within 30 min, test rode it and she bought it!  It's in very good cond, 3500 miles, runs great, only issues is it needs a battery and the side covers paint is not a perfect match.  She got it for $1900...

I thought so as well.  But the 350 twin is a dog, too slow for me! But perfect for her as a beginner...

Good looking 350 .

I thought so too.  She was concerned the color was a little too masculine! Typical girl...I advised her you shouldnt pick a good vintage bike by the color...

Larry MoMo will be happy to put one of his pink paint jobs on it like he did that 400F.  ;)  Has your niece had any riding experience yet Steve either in the dirt or on the road ? Are her parents OK with it or is Uncle Steve going to be in big trouble ??

I think she's ridden mopeds when she was younger, my brother had a Honda Passport we used as a pit bike at the track.

Long story but it did sit outside for at least a couple months as it was abandoned.   But it cleaned up real nice and was garage kept the last few months.

She sent me a text earlier - she rode it today and had "lots of fun".   She'll be taking a safety course next week.

Are you going to switch the front wheel to a disc brake like the '73 G model?
